Vice President, Global Health, Safety & Environment

Summary

The Global Vice President, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and Sustainability is accountable for Enerflex’s enterprise HSE and sustainability outcomes across all regions and business lines, including Engineered Systems, Energy Infrastructure, and After‑Market Services / Field Services. Enerflex’s operating context includes a globally distributed workforce and a portfolio spanning compression, processing, cryogenic, power, and treated water solutions delivered through manufacturing, project execution, and field operations.

The role designs and governs an integrated enterprise operating model that standardizes expectations, strengthens a consistent safety culture, and ensures regulatory and client compliance across jurisdictions. The incumbent leads the enterprise frameworks for occupational health and safety, environmental stewardship, and emergency preparedness, ensuring these requirements are embedded across the full work lifecycle from design and fabrication through installation, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and project execution.

This executive provides functional leadership for the global HSE organization by setting standards, building capability, and driving transparent performance management through a balanced scorecard of leading and lagging indicators. The role also provides executive and board-level governance and reporting on material risks, mitigation progress, compliance posture, and delivery against safety and sustainability commitments, translating enterprise priorities into execution through assurance, incident learning, competency, contractor controls, and environmental performance discipline.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

Enterprise HSE Strategy and Integrated Operating Model

- Establish and execute a multi-year global HSE strategy aligned to Enerflex’s Vision and operating realities across Engineered Systems, Energy Infrastructure, and After-Market Services.

- Define the enterprise HSE operating model, including decision rights, governance forums, standard work, and minimum performance expectations across regions and product lines.

- Partner with executive and regional leadership to embed HSE into business planning and execution rhythms, consistent with Enerflex’s global footprint and operating structure.

Management Systems, Standards, and Assurance

- Own and continuously improve the enterprise HSE management system, including global policy, standards, and requirements across all operations, consistent with Enerflex’s stated ISO-based approach.

- Establish the annual assurance plan: internal audits, facility inspections, external audit support, and governance over corrective actions and verification of effectiveness

- Ensure compliance with applicable HSE regulatory requirements across jurisdictions and maintain effective liaison with regulators, associations, and client representatives

Operational Risk Management and Serious Incident Prevention

- Lead enterprise-level hazard identification and risk management, prioritizing controls for high-risk work typical of Enerflex operations (manufacturing, field service, installation, commissioning, and operated assets).

- Implement enterprise expectations for risk controls, including proactive hazard identification, control effectiveness checks, and consistent escalation of high potential events

- Reinforce a culture where employees and contractors are trained and supported to stop work when conditions are unsafe, supported by clear leadership expectations and consistent follow-through

Performance Measurement, Transparency, and Executive Governance

- Establish the enterprise HSE performance framework with clear leading and lagging indicators, targets, and action plans, and drive continuous improvement in safety outcomes

- Produce executive-ready reporting and insights for senior leadership, including trend analysis, audit outcomes, lessons learned, and performance risks requiring decisions or resource

- Provide regular updates on enterprise HSE performance and risk posture through leadership meetings and structured governance cadences

Field Services, Contractor Management, and Workforce Capability

- Set enterprise requirements for contractor HSE management: selection expectations, onboarding, oversight, and performance governance across customer sites and Enerflex locations

- Ensure robust training and competency systems for leaders, supervisors, and frontline teams, including recurring safety communications and standardized safety meeting materials

- Drive consistent incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action completion across global operations, including coaching leaders through investigation and documentation requirements

- Lead environmental compliance and stewardship practices across Enerflex’s footprint, including spill prevention and response, waste management, and environmentally responsible operations.

- Own the enterprise Emergency Response Program, including global readiness standards, role clarity, and coordination across regions and sites

- Lead and oversee emergency response incidents as required, ensuring timely escalation, communication, and post-incident learning

- Plan and execute regular testing of emergency response plans and incorporate learnings into management system improvements

Qualifications

- 15+ years of progressive HSE leadership experience, including senior accountability in industrial / energy environments that include both manufacturing and field execution (installation, commissioning, service, and operations).

- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise or multi-regional HSE programs across a distributed global footprint, with proven ability to align standards and practices across multiple jurisdictions and operating contexts.

- Demonstrated success as a functional leader building and leading an HSE organization, including leading through senior managers and influencing cross-functional stakeholders as part of a senior management team.

- Proven accountability for management system governance and assurance, including internal audit programs, external audit support, and enterprise corrective action discipline (closure and effectiveness verification).

- Track record leading emergency response program governance (global ERP ownership, testing cadence, incident leadership and escalation) in support of enterprise readiness and resilience.

- Deep knowledge of HSE regulatory compliance and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with regulators, safety associations, client representatives, and contractors.

- Demonstrated ability to run incident management systems end-to-end, including reporting discipline, investigation rigor, root cause analysis, and sustainable corrective action implementation.

- Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of an organization, including executive stakeholders, operational leaders, and frontline teams.

Physical Requirements

Fast-paced executive environment with significant time sensitivity, requiring close coordination across global operations, manufacturing sites, and field service activities. Travel is required (domestic and international) to support regional leadership, site engagement, audits/assurance activities, and major operational priorities. The role may require availability outside standard business hours to support incident escalation, crisis readiness, and enterprise-level decision making
