As a key member of the management team, the incumbent will direct the activities of a team of employees which include Directors, Operations Managers, Operations Supervisors and various craft technicians engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of hydroelectric facilities and Storage assets. The Vice President/Director, Operations must be able to work independently in leading their team to ensure the performance of Brookfield’s renewable assets, and HSS&E to ensure that company personnel, contractors and consultants adhere to the company’s HSS&E (health, safety, security and environment) managed systems. The incumbent will need to embrace, foster and promote the Brookfield leadership values of: Act like an owner, build strong teams and deliver business results.
Note: The title and scope of the role—Vice President or Director of Operations—will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Work location will be determined based on the successful candidate's residence, with options in our Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario or Gatineau, Quebec office.

Responsibilities:
•Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the assigned region(s) and collaborate with other regions and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives
•Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.
•Maintain and support the implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures
•Partner with HSS&E to Assess the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental risk and impact of company activities as well as projects
•Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of operation and conduct;
•Promote a culture of continuous improvement at all sites, identifying opportunities for process/capital improvements;
•Manage and develop a team of directors and operations leaders throughout the region.
•Ensure assets are properly maintained and efficiently operated in order to achieve revenue and production goals.
•Oversee budgets, planning and executing capital and major maintenance projects with strict adherence to defined scope, schedule and budgets; assembling, negotiating and supervising contracts for such purposes
•Oversee designs, specifications, plans, estimates and reports involved in company capital and major maintenance projects.
•Develop and maintain technical expertise relevant to the company assets in the specific region, maintain a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly.
•Forecast capital and operating costs and oversee budget for maintenance and asset management department and review funding requests for capital and repair jobs.
Requirements:
•Strong leadership and management skills. A track record of building and mentoring a team to achieve and improve levels of performance;
•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
•Action oriented with a drive for results;
•Ability to set priorities for multiple objectives;
•Extensive travel throughout the region is necessary; therefore ability to travel and work at assigned locations for extended periods of time will be required.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical engineering;
•At least ten (10) years of management experience, in an operations or general management role, preferably in the field of hydroelectric generation;
•Demonstrated safe work habits and record as well as familiarity with local / regional regulatory requirements related to Health, Safety, Security and Environment;
•Intimate knowledge of related industry standards and knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
