UNDERGROUND MINE SUPERINTENDENT
Position Description:
The Mine Superintendent, Underground is responsible for leading and managing all underground mining operations to achieve production targets safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. This role ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards, fosters a high-performing team culture, and drives continuous improvement in operational processes. As a critical leader, the Mine Superintendent communicates effectively with stakeholders, coordinates across departments, and implements strategies to optimize resources and achieve organizational objectives.
Responsibilities:
•Manage daily underground mining activities to ensure production goals are achieved safely and efficiently.
•Promote and enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies and standards. Conduct regular safety audits and ensure effective training programs are in place.
•Lead, mentor, and develop the underground mining team, including supervisors, operators, and contractors.
•Ensure contractors are seamlessly integrated into operations and held to the same standards for safety, productivity, and performance as internal staff. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
•Collaborate with contractors to align their work with operational goals, monitor their performance to ensure compliance with contractual terms, safety protocols, and quality standards. Address performance issues promptly and maintain open, effective communication between contractors and internal teams.
•Maintain clear and open communication with all stakeholders, including employees, contractors, and senior management. Provide direction, share updates, and address concerns in a timely manner.
•Work closely with contractors, engineering, maintenance, and other departments to optimize resource utilization and ensure seamless, efficient operations.
•Prepare and oversee the operational budget, controlling costs and ensuring expenditures remain within financial targets.
•Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, safety, and cost efficiency.
•Deliver regular updates to senior management on operational performance, production metrics, safety compliance, and other key indicators.
Ensure subcontractors fully execute and comply with the scope of work outlined in their contracts, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
•Sound understanding of Ontario underground mining regulations and statutory responsibilities.
•Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams in a challenging environment.
•Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
•Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Mobile Maintenance with supervisory experience and Microsoft Office Suite.
