The responsibilities of a tube mill operator are to set up and operate machines. Other duties are to oversee the mill crew, monitor operations or procedures, and provide maintenance for equipment as needed. A mill operator also reviews incoming orders as well as packaging and tagging material. They handle heavy machinery, including forklifts.
- Perform functions to provide manufacturing production with sufficient operation of the tube mill.
- Perform duties to set up, adjust, and operate an aluminum welded tube mill, quality lab equipment, drive a lift-truck and determine appropriate settings and operational sequences, within the limitations of standard methods and procedures.
- Troubleshoot welded tube mill process in areas relating to manufacturing problem resolution and process improvement, working within the limits of established policies.
- Reports non-conformities identified to the Production Supervisor and the Quality Department
- Makes adjustments to sizing section driven stand rolls and side pass rolls to properly size tubing.
- Operate control panel for tube mill, annealer and induction welder. Sets and monitors temperature for in-line annealer and induction welder.
- Tooling Setup Charts to properly set mill up for given sizes
- Set-up, operate and adjust parameters of welded tube mill equipment and tooling to maximize efficiency and quality requirements
- Execute and record all production/quality checks
- Performs dimensional and visual inspection of samples provided for beginning/end of production runs and follows written procedures for documenting weld integrity.
- Operation of the mill will require multifunction operation of multiple control panels in sequence to ensure proper operation.
- Perform or assist with any departmental operations, as needed or directed to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions. Ensure safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
- Assist in the process examination, quality documentation, and root cause analysis.
- Assist in equipment validations, safety and quality audits.
- Able to work in a team environment reacting to production conditions and routinely changing job functions.
- Able to keep up with normal production requirements while using proper body mechanics to work in a safe manner.
- Work from schedules, production orders, prints and specifications.
- Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years experience as Tube Mill Operator
