We are currently seeking a Traveling Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic team in the Northeast. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily activities of your team, maximizing efficiency, safety, and the quality of daily assignments, while ensuring the accuracy of the data collected. Your extensive knowledge of common surveying instruments and techniques, coupled with your strong leadership skills, will be essential in training and developing members of the survey crew.
This role requires travel, is overtime and per diem eligible, and comes with a company vehicle.
Compensation is based on experience.
Responsibilities of the Traveling Survey Crew Chief:
•Conduct field work encompassing Boundary & Topographical Surveys, Construction Layout, As-Built surveys, Route surveys, Bathymetric Surveys, and Specific purpose surveying serving Energy Transmission and Distribution.
•Utilize advanced surveying equipment, including the Robotic Trimble total station S5, Trimble GPS R10-2 or R12i, Trimble TSC5 Data Collector, and Trimble Access Field Software. Familiarity with Static and RTK survey practices and proficiency in utilizing Trimble's VRS network and FDOT's FPRN network.
•Employ automatic and digital levels effectively.
•Establish control networks, recover boundary monumentation, and complete site calibrations.
•Record and sketch field notes accurately.
•Download and compile field data sketches, as well as review raw field data for quality control purposes.
•Ensure quality control of all survey documents, including field notes, sketches, plans, etc.
•Supervise and maintain company vehicles and survey field equipment. Provide training and assistance to less experienced staff members.
•Foster a robust safety culture by comprehending risks and hazards, taking appropriate action, conducting safety meetings, and reporting incidents.
•Offer continuous mentoring, training, and support to crew members.
Requirements of the Traveling Survey Crew Chief:
•Minimum of 5 years of field experience, with at least 2 years in a Survey Crew/Party Chief role.
•Proficiency in working with Trimble GPS (Static and RTK), Trimble, and Trimble Access.
•Experience with or willingness to learn the use of Trimble laser scanners.
•Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, lift, and carry heavy equipment when required.
•Ability to comprehend work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and colleagues.
•High School Diploma or equivalent.
•Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record.
Work Environment:

•Travel requirement: 75-100% to field project sites.
•Motor coordination with finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation) is required for a significant portion of the workday.

This position is per-diem eligible when work is located more than 2 hours from the employee's home base. Crews can be out of town up to 5 days a week, working ten (10) hour days, occasionally 6 depending on client demands.
