PREFERENCES

PNM is looking for a Transmission Planning Engineer that will perform complex engineering activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OR PREFERENCES

Under general supervision, the engineer is responsible for the following:

Perform powerflow contingency, short circuit, stability and transfer capability studies and perform analytics using electrical transmission system models such as PSLF/PSSE, ASPEN Oneliner, PSCAD, and other related products

Analyze future electric demand and generation and identify transmission and substation enhancements and expansions to address long-term system needs and address emergent issues

Evaluate and/or peer review studies of interconnection requests for large generators and/or customer load additions to identify system impacts and recommend needed mitigations

Ensure compliance with utility standards, safety regulations, and state/federal rules (IEEE, NESC, FERC, NERC) as applicable

Support regional study efforts in coordination with FERC Orders 1000 and 1920, as well as related to regional transmission planning efforts

Support state and federal regulatory filings and compliance engagements such as audits or annual self-certification as needed

Provide technical support and direction to Control Center personnel and contractors, and training to less experienced staff, as needed

Communicate engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse internal and external audiences

Apply engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards and new technology solutions

Perform all work in a safe and timely manner.

Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state, and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)

Ability to work as part of a team with various departments and levels of personnel

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates the engineering work for a total project of moderate scope or for detailed phases of part of a major project.

Manages all the engineering aspects of projects of moderate scope or detailed phases of major project efforts

Leads or conducts performance, cost, and scheduling studies of varying size that are generally conventional in nature

Supports operational areas through the application of standard and non-standard engineering techniques, practices, and procedures

Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse internal groups in a working or conference type environment

Represents the company¿s interests in engineering matters that may be varied and complex in nature

Interacts with and provides broad knowledge technical support to other associates

Applies engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards

Provides technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel on a regular, on-going basis

COMPETENCIES:

Broad knowledge and proven ability to apply engineering principles, practices and regulations to, and perform economic and decision analysis studies of issues in areas including, but not limited to, generation, transmission, distribution, system planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations

Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)

Ability to translate electrical theory and physics to utility application for improving system reliability

Ability to make informed repair decisions following company protocols

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor¿s Degree in Engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET), plus four or more years of engineering experience or three or more with a Fundamentals of Engineering certificate or three or more with a Master¿s Degree in Engineering.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

Fundamentals of Engineering certificate is preferred.

Must possess current, legally valid driver¿s license and meet the Company¿s driving record requirements.
