POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a seasoned Technical Lead / Staff Engineer to join our Grid & Energy Analytics team within G&ES. In this critical role, you will lead the technical vision, architecture, and delivery of our cloud-native merchant optimization platform that enables solar, storage, and renewable energy assets to participate in U.S. wholesale electricity markets.
This position will drive the development of enterprise-grade controls and bidding applications for CAISO, ERCOT, NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM, with a focus on speed, scalability, and market compliance.
This position will be preferably based out of Santa Clara or San Francisco office but could be a remote position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Serve as technical lead and architect for the Wholesale Market Applications team building products for FTM & BTM solar + storage participation in ISO markets.
•Design and build the next-generation merchant optimization platform, ensuring modularity, configurability, and ease of integration.
•Partner closely with Product Management to translate market requirements into technical solutions, drive product roadmap execution, and ensure timely delivery.
•Conduct and lead design reviews, establish coding standards, and ensure technical excellence across deliverables.
•Own the technical roadmap, with a focus on implementing advanced optimization algorithms, scalable microservices, and real-time bidding engines.
•Develop subject matter expertise across U.S. ISO/RTO rules, and mentor engineering team on compliance, settlement, and operational nuances.
•Drive product benchmarking, build metrics, contribute to market collateral, and continuously improve system performance using data-driven insights.
•Provide Level 3 support for production issues and actively contribute to operational robustness and scalability.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field.
•7+ years of software development experience (or 3+ post-Master’s), ideally in energy, renewables, or grid-tech sectors.
•Proven experience delivering production-grade software for DERs, energy storage, or grid market participation.
•Strong foundation in wholesale market operations, DER optimization, demand response, and market incentive programs.
•Proficiency in Python, Kubernetes, microservices architecture, and working with cloud-native deployments.
•Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Advanced Roadmaps.
•Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Deep knowledge of ISO/RTO market participation frameworks, especially ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM.
•Hands-on experience with Azure cloud stack, including deployment pipelines and monitoring tools.
•Experience in CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and modern testing frameworks.
•Exposure to real-time systems, controls, or forecasting models for energy assets.

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications.
