Description
Under the general direction of the Project Manager, the Survey Party Chief leads his field survey crew in performing construction, topographic, hydrographic, boundary, right-of-way, control, and special purpose surveys for a client or in support of any of the various technical services of the company.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
•Reports to the SVY Field Manager (Chief of Parties) or Project Manager who is responsible for the project/assignment.
•Ensures that all members of his survey crew conduct themselves in a professional manner and present a responsible, positive attitude to the public.
•Interacts with internal and external client representatives in a professional manner.
•Coordinates with Project manager, Chief of Parties and project personnel for daily crew assignment and schedule to meet project needs.
•Ensures, through daily inspection, that the survey vehicles have an adequate supply of equipment and materials for the day's operations.
•Supervises, manages, and mentors subordinate field survey personnel in the performance of their assignments.
•Scribes neat and accurate field notes to record the survey work performed.
•Performs the necessary calculations to close level loops, to provide field checks on the angular closure of a field traverse, etc.
Job Requirements
•3+ years' project experience required in the field of surveying.
•A thorough understanding of all surveying and best practices.
•Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
•A thorough understanding of safety precautions and the ability to follow and enforce SSSP related to the project.
•Excellent communication and leadership skills.
•Ability to make good decisions quickly and provide alternate solutions.
•Proficient with MS Word and Excel.
•Ability to work autonomously and to collaborate fully as a team player.
•Ability to pay close attention to details, and present good planning, organization, and time management skills.
•Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted).
•Ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations and Company policies and procedures.
•Ability to read graphic instructions, construction plans and specifications.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
•Spends 100% of time in a field environment.
•Is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
•Is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
•Occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.
•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
