Key Roles

This position is responsible for leadership, training, and monitoring of a multi-discipline group of Engineers and other technical staff who develop, plan, and execute Power Delivery and Production capital and major maintenance projects utilizing project life cycle processes. Additionally this position utilizes the Project Development Plan for resource assignments to support engineering, procurement, and construction of projects.

Candidates with experience in the energy industry is preferred, but not required.


Key Responsibilities

- Responsible for the successful execution of projects (with internal and/or external resources) that are designed and constructed in accordance with appropriate codes and regulatory requirements, and effectively achieves the purpose for which they were intended. Projects include plant/grid betterment, additions, retrofits, replacements, and new facilities on existing or green field sites.

- Monitors project performance metrics and accountability for safety, cost, schedule, and quality.

- Assures that all contractors/resources employed to execute projects follow and adhere to all project safety standards and goals.

- Responsible to execute the E&C Project Development Plan (PDP) that is utilized for resource management and assignments in support of project development, design, and execution.

- Utilizing the PDP and other tools/processes for project control, is responsible to coordinate resources, and track overall schedule and cost performance of each project in the E&C portfolio to ensure project teams are meeting project plans and business unit objectives.

- In collaboration with Project Controls, monitors and the capital/major project lifecycle processes and tools, including existing and new interfaces with other EKPC departments, processes, and systems.

- In collaboration with Shared Services works to ensure Project Managers are executing projects utilizing the implemented tools in support of successful project planning and execution (Maximo, OPPM, P6, etc.).

- Responsible for supervising the execution of projects while building and preserving project/asset data and records from the inception of the project through completion and archival.

- Responsible for procurement of external A/E, Engineering, Specialty Consulting, or Construction services according to EKPC and departmental policies and procedures.

- Supports, participates in, and provides leadership in sustaining and strengthening EKPC¿s safety culture and corporate mission.

- Performs all day to day activities required to assist the department in the execution of the Capital Budget such as but not limited to (change management approvals, requisition approvals, contract approvals, complex coordination with other departments, land owner issues, and coordination with Member Systems.

- Coordinates and collaborates with Power Delivery and Production Plant Leadership/Operations/Maintenance, plant System Engineers, E&C Transmission Planners, and E&C Production/Transmission Engineers, to implement projects that enhance the safe, reliable, cost effective operation of the generation fleet and transmission system, and meet EKPC Member needs for growth and reliability.

- Routinely presents project-related actions to the EKPC Board, testifies before the Public Service Commission, and makes presentations to various dignitaries and audiences.

- Supervises and develops the individual skills of directs reports to achieve the goals of the department.

- Hires, trains, and develops engineers and technical staff to ensure adequate resources are available to effectively support objectives stated in position summary. Effectively supervises employee performance and compensation in accordance with corporate policy.

- Presents on an as needed basis, presentations for varied audiences, including EKPC¿s Executive Staff, and Board of Directors.

- Performs other duties as assigned.


Key Requirements


Education:

- BS (Engineering) required from ABET accredited program.

- P.E. required.


Experience:

- Eight (8) years of related and progressively more responsible major project experience required.

- Large (>$15M) Capital Project Management experience required.

- Prior experience developing and financially planning large (>$15M) capital projects, preferred.

- Experience with full project life cycle processes preferred.


Skills and Abilities:

- Complete Supervisory Training Program within two (2) years and attend ongoing Learning for Leaders training.

- Excellent project management and organization skills.

- Thorough knowledge of construction safety.

- Strong written and oral communication skills.

- Very good working knowledge of project financial planning, budgeting, asset physical and financial records, and procurement.

- Good interpersonal skills, ability to work with a variety of people.

- Good deductive reasoning and negotiation skills.

Working Conditions

- Due to the 24/7 operational cycle, work outside of normal business hours is required on occasion, with potential to include nights and weekends.

- Must be medically certified to wear respiratory protection. Must be able to appropriately don a respirator which would include no facial hair at the sealing surface.

- Must maintain a valid driver¿s license.

- Usual office conditions apply to this position with frequent field work.

- Work in and around operating plant and construction environment where environment demands may include dust, fumes, rough/uneven terrain, variations in temperature, etc.

- Occasionally lifts up to twenty (20) lbs.

- Travel within the system and occasional out-of-state, which may be overnight.

- Must wear personal protective equipment appropriately and as applicable.
