JOB SUMMARY
Provides technical leadership to a group of engineering professionals responsible for ensuring the functionality and accuracy of the Energy Management System (EMS) - System Operations Applications used for studying, monitoring, analyzing and operating the high voltage electric power grid in both the off-line and real-time environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as a group leader for Operations Engineering and represents the work unit in matters related to Operations Applications; meets regularly with staff to coordinate, plan, assign and schedule work required to maintain the accuracy and availability of core operations applications and supporting network applications modeling databases.
Develops and maintains effective procedures and ensures the workgroup follows procedures consistently with regards to building and maintaining the EMS power system models and supporting data files required to support EMS system operations tools for Operational Planning and Real Time Operations; resolves functional EMS State Estimator (SE), Contingency Analysis (CA), Power Flow (PF) and OTS power system modeling and database problems.
Solves technical problems by interpreting and evaluating information, uncovering related issues, developing methods or procedures for gathering information, making recommendations and implementing solutions for matters related to maintaining, supporting and enhancing the availability and accuracy of EMS system operations applications with respect to industry related operational best practices.
Formulates recommendations for computer network application software/process enhancements and improvements; develops proposals to improve any identified business process inefficiencies.
Ensures sustainable processes are in place to demonstrate compliance with applicable NERC standards.
Works closely with Operations Control Room (OCR), Operations Planning, SCADA Support, Planning, Engineering, Project Management and other related groups within ITC to ensure efficient and effective processes are followed.
Provides expertise and guidance on technical issues to Real Time Operations and Operations Planning; ensures the group provides adequate support to OCR and Operations Training Department as required.
Provides coaching, supervision and training to staff; assists employees in developing performance goals, career plans and ensures work group goals align with company priorities.
Provides subject matter expertise for projects and committees regarding technical and non-technical matters related to operations applications; participates in appropriate advanced applications technical conferences and industry forums for the sharing of best operations business practices.
Provide on-call technical support to the Operations Control Room on an as needed basis.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry; thorough understanding of power system operations, transmission grid operations and Energy Management System (EMS) power system advanced analysis and monitoring applications preferred.
Extensive working knowledge of the following OSI (or equivalent) EMS Advanced Applications are preferred: Operator Training Simulator (OTS), State Estimator (SE), Contingency Analysis (CA) and Power Flow (PF).
Possess exceptional analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
