JOB SUMMARY
Provides technical leadership to a group of engineering professionals responsible for studying planned and unplanned transmission outages, next day analysis, seasonal assessments and real time operations support for various company systems (e.g. ITCM, ITCGP, ITCT, METC)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as a group leader for operations engineering and represents the work unit in matters related to operational planning; meets regularly with staff to coordinate, plan, assign and schedule for forward, next day and current day planned and unplanned outage studies for company systems
Develops and maintains effective procedures and ensures that the workgroup follows procedures consistently
Implements risk management processes in transmission outage coordination
Solves technical problems by interpreting and evaluating information, uncovering related issues, developing methods or procedures for gathering information, making recommendations and implementing solutions for matters related to long- term, forward and next-day and real time horizon operational planning studies and mitigation strategies
Coordinates transmission outages with RTOs, neighboring entities and customers
Provides expertise and guidance on technical issues to Real Time Operations, Planning and Engineering
Provides leadership in operations evaluations of proposed projects in Engineering Information (EI)-Sketches for reliability, operability and maintainability
Ensures that sustainable processes are in place to demonstrate compliance with applicable NERC standards
Works closely with OCR, Outage Coordination, Planning, Engineering, Project Management and other related groups within ITC to ensure efficient and effective processes are followed
Ensures that the group provides adequate support to OCR including after hours on call support; works hours aligned with OCR day-shift schedules may be required occasionally
Provides coaching, supervision and training to staff; assists employees in developing performance goals, career plans and ensures that work group goals align with company priorities
Provides subject matter expertise for projects and committees regarding technical and non-technical matters related to operational planning; participates in industry forums, stakeholder meetings and conferences as necessary
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry; transmission system operations Operational Planning experience preferred
Thorough understanding of power system operations, transmission grid operations and computer system applications
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including: the ability to convey information clearly, concisely and effectively and write technical reports
Proven ability to work effectively as member of external and internal teams, including cross-functional teams
Intermediate knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Possess exceptional analytical problem-solving and documentation skills
Working knowledge of TARA and Transmission Management System (TMS) tools preferred
Experience in utilizing Energy Management System (EMS) - Power Flow (PF), Contingency Analysis (CA) and State Estimator (SE) preferred
Knowledge of company transmission footprint preferred
Ability to work under minimal supervision in a team environment preferred
