Supervisor - Maintenance/Mechanic

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for general oversight of all equipment within the field, both rotating and fixed. This includes the direct supervision of mechanics, electricians and various contractors.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

- Responsible for effective and efficient supervision of all maintenance programs and activities to ensure the proper and safe operation condition of assets and equipment.

- Effective supervision, development, motivation, and appraisal of subordinates. Maintain appropriate crew levels.

- Ensure all work performed is in compliance with company environmental, health, and safety policies.

- Schedule and supervise the daily activities of all maintenance staff.

- Generate work orders for heavy equipment, rolling stock equipment, and follow progress to completion.

- Track maintenance costs (by facility and equipment). Ensure objectives and costs are achieved and consistent with budgetary constraints.

- Problem solver and creative thinker in order to provide solutions to improving the equipment performance.

- Advise terminal management of progress toward objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments.

- Serve as trainer in the instruction of facility staff and operators toward required maintenance activities.

- Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blue prints, technical manuals, operational manuals) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use.

- Through inventory tracking, ensure that critical needs for parts and services are available.

- Maintain preventative maintenance program and software.

- Accept supervision and effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, KM staff and others as required.

- Provide technical leadership to the maintenance group.

- Prepare reliability plans for critical equipment.

- Responsible for ensuring that unscheduled work orders are addressed in a timely manner.

- Provide support to operations to ensure downtime is minimized.

- Fulfill various roles and responsibilities related to compliance with regulatory agencies.

- Recognize and promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient and cost effective operation, making sure that operating costs are consistent with budgetary constraints.

- All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education:

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience / Specific knowledge:

- A minimum of 5 years of previous successful work experience industrial maintenance is required.

- Experience maintaining heavy industrial rolling equipment (front-end loaders, dozers, cranes) and/or conveyor systems is preferred.

- A minimum of 3 year of supervisory experience is required.

- Previous experience in the use of a preventive maintenance tracking program is desired.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

- A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and current, valid State driver’s license are required.

- Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials) card.

Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

- Good oral and written communications.

- Must be proficient in the use of computer and applications (Microsoft Office, database, and internet search engines).

- Ability to perform job duties with little or no supervision.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

- Ability to work safely and direct the maintenance department to work safely, with an emphasis on following procedures and best management practices.

- Ability to interact with regulatory agencies and peers with self-confidence, poise, and professionalism.

- Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.

Physical demands:

- Must be able to respond to call outs on a 24 hour emergency basis

- Must be able to work long hours, in excess of 12 hours, when required

- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs

- Willing and able to work at heights up to 100 feet

- Able to negotiate uneven surfaces

- Able to carry up to 50 lbs

Working conditions:

- Position is generally assigned a daytime schedule but will be required to work extended hours to include nights and weekends.

- Must be available for 24 hour call-in.

- Tasks are performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
