We are looking for a Superintendent Power Operations to lead the safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of our Power Operations department in Kitimat, BC. This role is accountable for driving operational excellence through best-in-class practices in operations, maintenance, and asset management, while ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with business objectives.

Reporting to the Manager Power Operations and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

- Champion safety performance and foster a healthy culture across your department.

- Collaborate across departments to meet key performance indicators including productivity, quality, and reliability.

- Promote continuous improvement through team-led initiatives, technical development, and skills training.

- Manage capital and operating budgets to support strategic and operational goals.

- Strengthen leadership capability and support team development

- Apply business and risk evaluation techniques to enhance service delivery and operational outcomes.

- Provide responsive leadership, including support during off-hours for critical operational issues.

- Facilitate clear communication between frontline teams and leadership, ensuring employee feedback is heard and acted upon.


What you’ll bring

- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

- Relevant education or experience, including a degree, leadership background, or technical/trade qualifications with industry experience.

- Advanced understanding of health and safety practices, including leadership, systems, and cultural development.

- At least 10 years of experience in industrial maintenance or operations, ideally with leadership experience in a unionized environment.

- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop teams, for growth and performance.

- Effective communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders across all levels.

- Solid understanding of cost structures and strategies for operational optimization.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

It will also be beneficial if you have:

- Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, with the ability to apply continuous improvement principles in operational settings.

- Hydroelectric industry experience and regulatory knowledge

The base salary range for this role is $129,600 – $194,400 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role. Rio Tinto’s BC Works is a part of the Atlantic Operations of the Aluminium product group and has been operating in British Columbia for over 70 years.
