The Exploration Geology Intern will be a member of the Exploration Geology Department and will be responsible to support the exploration by handing, processing, and sampling of diamond drill core and doing basic labour support functions for the Exploration team at the Detour Lake Mine.
- Provide geological support to the exploration team that will focus on assisting with logging exploration drill holes using current software and protocols as outlined by the Company;
- Assist with ensuring geological data is collected to specified standards and QA/QC protocol is followed;
- Field work may include spotting surface drill hole collars, surface mapping and prospecting while ensuring adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental standards and procedures.
- Additional duties include the monitoring of exploration drilling programs, pick up drill core from drill site, open core boxes and arrange in order, checking them for block footage errors;
- Assist in capturing the (RQD) Rock Quality Designation of drill core as per training procedure;
- Operate pallet jack as per proper training, moving core skids with core or samples and other materials;
- Take part in storing pulps and rejects as required;
- Maintain good housekeeping at all times, ensure proper PPE and tools are used for all tasks.
- Currently enrolled in BSc program in Geological or Earth Science or Engineering or related field;
- Valid Driver’s License;
- Good communication skills, literacy and numeracy skills;
- Self starter with the ability to manage repetitive tasks with minimal supervision;
- Physically fit with the ability to lift upwards of 55 lbs.;
- Proven commitment to safety, health and environmental best practice;
