We are actively seeking a Geology Student or New Graduate to join our team Cold Lake Team in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Manager, Geosciences – Cold Lake Thermal, the successful candidate will support a team of Geoscience professionals in providing geological analysis, subsurface interpretations, recommendations, and technical work.
This is an excellent opportunity for a geology student to understand how their education can impact oil production and growth through reservoir optimization and will give them exposure to working alongside experienced geoscience professionals.
This opportunity will be available for an 8-month fixed term.
- Assist in developing play maps and depositional models to generate and verify drill locations and development opportunities.
- Interpret stratigraphic and structural cross-sections to formulate subsurface geologic models.
- Interpret subsurface formation isopach, structure, and facies maps to illustrate reservoir characteristics.
- Integration of petrography, core, drill cuttings, petrophysical analysis and geophysical interpretation to accurately characterize SAGD reservoirs.
- Detailed log analysis for reservoir mapping and volumetrics.
- Working closely with geologists, geophysicists, and engineers to optimize bitumen recovery by analyzing steam chamber development and suggesting optimizations to well operations.
- Well placement, planning, and geological drilling operations for stratigraphic, observation, and horizontal wells.
- Generation of geological prognoses for SAGD development.
- Enrolled or recently graduated from a University Geosciences program.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – adaptable to a wide range of personalities.
- Thrive in a collaborative team setting, intrinsically motivated, enthusiastic, and a positive attitude.
- Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
