Position Title: Substation Tech – C Class

Essential Functions:

This is an entry level position requiring 1 year as a Substation Trainee. The Substation Tech C will be to Install, maintain, and repair Substation wiring, equipment, Steel and wood structures. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. This may include layout, forming and pouring of concrete footings and piers. The Substation Tech C at times may be responsible for ensuring safety standards for his crew and working closely with the safety manager to set standards and guidelines to create a safety program for all employees. Safety should be the number one priority of any Substation Tech C as he is entrusted with the safety of each employee, he/she works with. Foremen will be responsible for daily job briefings and ensuring that all crew members are well versed on the coming day’s business, so they are prepared for all potential hazards. It is the Substation Tech C responsibility to report all incidents/accidents to the foreman or safety specialist immediately. It is the Substation Tech C responsibility to recognize areas for potential improvement and to report any “near miss” events for the crew members to learn from those events with the goal of preventing future accidents. This position reports to the Foreman
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of, buildings, or Substation structures.
•Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
•Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications
•Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
•Ability to learn the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes assessment of customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
•Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
•Measure materials or objects for installation or assembly.
•Cut metal components for installation.
•Assist with installation of Structure components such as Switches, Pt’s, Ct’s etc…
•Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools
•Ability to learn to operate various earth moving equipment.
•Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time and lift up to 100lbs.
•Must possess manual dexterity skills including the ability to use hands in fine manipulation, have good hand/eye coordination.
Success Factors:
•Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of substations, buildings, or other structures.
•Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications..
•Requires good mechanical and electrical aptitude, communication skills and electricity training helpful.

Experience and Education:
•High School Diploma or equivalent and/or Apprenticeship preferred but not required.
•One (1) years of experience or equivalent hours
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is required.
•Must have a Valid Class A CDL and current medical examiner card
•Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
•Must be able to work outdoors in diverse terrain and in all weather conditions.
•Must complete OSHA 10hr Safety Training Program within 60 days.
•Successful completion of appropriate knowledge and skills examinations.
•Compliance to Safety Performance Standards.
•Physical capabilities required to safely operate a motor vehicle and equipment, in all driving conditions. Possesses sight, strength, and coordination
•Must have ability for frequent travel on needed training requirements and potential for overtime including storm work
