Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Steel Fabrication Drafter to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for producing accurate and comprehensive technical drawings and plans to support steel fabrication projects. The Drafter will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure all designs are clearly communicated, align with project specifications, and adhere to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and modify detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and plans for steel fabrication projects, including structural components, frames, supports, and custom steel parts.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to interpret project requirements and specifications.
- Review and analyze design concepts to ensure feasibility and accuracy in the context of steel fabrication.
- Utilize CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks) to produce precise and clear drawings for production and assembly.
- Ensure that all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with the fabrication team to clarify design details and resolve any discrepancies between drawings and production requirements.
- Perform material takeoffs and assist with estimating project costs and timelines based on design specifications.
- Update and revise drawings as needed to reflect changes in design or project requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all design files and revisions.
- Ensure that all designs are created with a strong attention to detail and alignment with fabrication processes, including welding, cutting, and bending.
- Review and approve final drawings before submission to fabrication and production teams.
- Proven experience as a Drafter or in a similar role, preferably within the steel fabrication or construction industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, including welding, cutting, bending, and assembly.
- Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to steel fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality, accurate designs.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and clients.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to address design issues or challenges.
- A degree or certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
- Occasionally may need to visit fabrication sites to review projects or conduct inspections.
