POSITION OVERVIEW

Supervise and mentor activities of the Environmental Department to ensure the operational unit complies with environmental federal, state, and local laws, administrative regulations, codes, and permits.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provide support to the operation to ensure compliance with EPA, ADEQ, MSHA, State, Local and Company environmental regulations.

- Oversee and prepare environmental permit applications.

- Negotiate terms of environmental permits with government regulators.

- Supervise and/or perform field monitoring and data analysis for compliance reporting and technical documents.

- Develop, organize, implement, and coordinate compliance programs.

- Prepare expense and capital expenditure forecasts.

- Provide consultant supervision and invoice approval, and environmental oversight for other departments using contractors onsite.

- Participate in Environmental Compliance and EMS Audits and perform annual environmental and DOT training.

- Meet with government regulators during permit negotiations, onsite inspections, and subcommittee meetings.

- Monitor product used, approve products prior to purchase, manage MSDS files, keep electronic system up-to-date and notify supervisors of changes.

- Participate in meetings at AMA and at other organizations and participate in regulatory development and analysis projects, as assigned.

- Manage the Drinking Water System for compliance related activities including sampling, writing plans, and ordering parts and chemicals, as necessary.

- Develop comments on plans, regulations, permits, and technical documents on various subjects including ESA and Land Management.

- Prepare required environmental and emergency response plans.

- Coordinate land use contracts, rights-of-way, and leases associated with the operational unit properties.

- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES

- Provide support to management in forecasting capital and expense annual budgets.

- Supervise and mentor Environmental Engineers.

- Other duties as assigned by the Environmental Manager.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental laws, administrative regulations, codes, and permits.

- Project management skills.

- Computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

- Knowledge of mining, milling, leaching and/or smelting processes.

- Knowledge of land use regulations and permitting processes.

- Experience with environmental sampling and analysis or monitoring

- Strong technical writing skills

- Ability to manage multiple tasks

- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Ability to solicit input from other employees

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


Requirements:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering environmental sciences or related field (Civil, geology, chemistry, earth sciences) required. (Relevant experience may be considered.)

- Minimum of 7 years environmental experience required, preferably in a mining or chemical processing environment.

- Certifications and training on Clear Water Act, Waste Management, Air Quality, and General Environmental Training

- EPA Method 9 certification, RCRA and MSHA training (will be required after start of work as part of regular assigned duties)

- English language fluency.

- - At least CEFR B2 - Upper Intermediate: Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
