We are also a leading supplier of uranium refining, conversion, and fuel manufacturing services from our operations in Ontario.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Automation and Controls Engineer to join our Operational Technology and Research Group within the Technical Services department. Based in our Saskatoon office, you will play a key role in supporting our uranium mining, milling and refining, and fuel services operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage your technical expertise, drive innovation, develop and implement standards, and collaborate with teams across multiple sites.
- Coordinate a small team to analyze control loop performance (e.g., PID control) and implement tuning strategies to optimize the process controls across Cameco’s operating sites based on criticality of safety, environmental and financial measures.
- Collaborate with operations teams to develop and maintain documentation for control strategies, system architecture, and standard operating procedures.
- Implement and maintain operational data strategies using AVEVA/OSIsoft PI systems across all sites.
- Develop and deliver PI system documentation, technical materials, and training for internal stakeholders.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvement using time-series data analytics to enhance operational efficiency, predict future states, and optimize performance.
- Lead and support operational technology projects from development through commissioning, ensuring alignment with standards and regulations.
- Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for control systems (e.g., DeltaV, Foxboro).
- Explore and assess new use cases for advanced process control (APC) applications using model predictive control (MPC) technologies.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to junior staff and peers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Process Control Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Automation and Controls Engineering
- Seven to 12 years of plant operating experience with knowledge in DCS/PLC systems (DeltaV, Foxboro), data historians (OSIsoft PI), advanced process data analytics, process control design, data reporting, modelling and implementation of advanced process control strategies, control loop performance management
- Working experience with AVEVA PI system, AspenTech APC, Rockwell Pavillion MPC or similar APC controller packages
- Proven experience in plant process monitoring, problem solving, and control systems
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Occasional travel to our operation sites including northern Saskatchewan.
- Be eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS): Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation
- Experience working in mining operation including milling and underground environments
- CAP (Certified Automation Professional – ISA), CSE (Control Systems Engineer – NCEES)
- Experience integrating APC solutions into Foxboro, Delta V DCS and/or other SCADA systems
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
