The Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for leading the development of complete electrical design packages including schematics, layouts, and bills of materials that meet manufacturing, regulatory, and client requirements. This role requires advanced technical knowledge of low- and medium-voltage electrical control equipment, as well as the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and client teams. As a senior member of the Engineering team, this individual will also provide mentorship, technical guidance, and design leadership to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Schedule: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm
- Develop and deliver complete electrical design packages (schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and BOMs) for low- and medium-voltage control equipment.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL) as well as client specifications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and field service teams to resolve design challenges and improve reliability.
- Lead client-facing communication on technical issues, ensuring requirements are met and solutions are delivered professionally and on time.
- Partner with estimators to provide design input on job size, configurations, and feasibility to support accurate project quotes.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to research materials, evaluate new technologies, and develop design symbols.
- Provide technical support during production and client witness testing; troubleshoot wiring and control issues when needed.
- Mentor junior designers and engineers, supporting the department’s continuous improvement of design standards, tools, and processes.
- Drive innovation by contributing to new product development and improvement projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, preferred (or equivalent technical training/experience).
- High School Diploma/GED, Required.- 5+ years of electrical design experience in switchgear, power distribution, or industrial control systems, Required.
- Experience with marine, oil & gas, or energy sector projects (preferred).
- Strong understanding of generator controls, short circuit/coordination studies, and complex system integration.- Proficiency in design software: AutoCAD, Promis*E, and related electrical CAD tools.
- Strong knowledge of applicable electrical standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL).
- Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with AS400 is a plus.
- Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills with an emphasis on cost, safety, and quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to prepare technical documentation and present to internal teams and clients.
