BHE Canada is currently seeking a Senior Corporate Development Analyst to join our Calgary team. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting market analyses, evaluating acquisition and new-build opportunities, and supporting strategy development efforts.
As a key player involved in strategic investment decisions, the ideal candidate will apply their expertise to lead the financial analysis, evaluation, and execution of Canadian energy and infrastructure opportunities. The selected individual will independently develop financial models and templates for evaluating business opportunities, conduct business valuations using discounted cash flow analysis and other techniques, and effectively communicate results to the team and to BHE Canada Management.
- Lead the evaluation and preparation of detailed business cases for investment and acquisition opportunities that meet BHE Canada’s strategic criteria, including briefing presentations for senior executives.
- Develop, construct and own financial models for greenfield projects, acquisitions or other business development opportunities, including discounted cash flow analysis for unlevered and levered returns, modeling three statement financial reports in Excel, capital structure optimization, business sensitivity analysis and earnings accretion / dilution analysis.
- Lead due diligence activities on investment opportunities including valuation review and risk mitigation plans.
- Identify, evaluate, and prepare detailed corporate profiles and competitive assessments of key market players.
- Establish and maintain strong positive relationships with project developers, original equipment manufacturers, consultants, and government and non-government agencies.
- Assist in the development of BHE Canada’s long-term strategic plan and provide input on potential strategic initiatives.
- Conduct macroeconomic analysis of Canadian, U.S. and international energy and electricity markets, and report key findings.
- Undertake a wide range of special projects as assigned, to support the company’s strategic planning and growth.
- A University degree (ideally in business, economics, or engineering), or equivalent in experience.
- An MBA, CFA, CPA, or CA (or equivalent in experience).
- 10 years of experience as a financial and economic analyst evaluating investment opportunities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills including developing investment presentations that will be reviewed by executive management.
- Energy industry experience, preferably electricity, with a well-rounded knowledge of key industry drivers, and the indicators of change within the industry.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Effective strategic, analytical, problem-solving, and investment decision-making skills.
- Good business sense with a proven track record of participating in and bringing forward sound investment decisions.
- Project management skills: ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Highly motivated, with a positive attitude and the ability to function effectively as part of a team.
