JOB SUMMARY
This position assists the operation manager to ensure successful completion of the work schedule in terms of quality, quantity and productivity. The Senior CNC Machinist is the point of contact for daily throughput and is expected to schedule, organize and mentor fellow employees. He/She will make or oversee setups and programs required to perform scheduled machine operation, making sure established procedures are followed. Work from daily production schedule, dispatch plan, shop orders and verbal instructions. Handles various production problems and is a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. The Senior CNC Machinist must be able to leads others effectively and gain cooperation without having formal authority over them.
Responsibilities include:
•Responsible for setting up, operating and programming a CNC machine
•Must be proficient at all types of turning,drilling, tapping and milling
•Supervise a small group of fellow machinists,
•Implement efficiency improvements throughout the machining department
•Be proficient in the programing of mills and lathes.
•Must be able to complete machining operations from blueprints, drawings and/or verbal instructions
•Must have experience with complex, tight tolerance parts and various materials
•Print and review daily dispatch plan and assign jobs to employees based on production needs, personnel capability and the availability of machines, material and parts; write and update setup sheets and machine programs; perform setups when necessary.
•Work from and ensure all diagrams, specifications, CNC programs, tooling and supplies needed for jobs are available, coordinating with other departments as needed.
•Requisition necessary tooling and supplies needed for jobs by reviewing perishable supplies and obtain approval from supervisor.
•Investigate and troubleshoot problems presented by employees and recommend appropriate corrective action considering time, monetary and production constraints; inform supervisors of actions taken.
•Complete paperwork and computer entry to document; track and affect work status, such as printing reports, tracking work orders, entering production time, writing and updating setup sheets, checking order quantity, etc.
•Perform visual and quantity check on orders leaving the department to ensure that all orders meet specifications.
•Train new machine operators on machines, machine tools, drawings and prints, and precision measuring instruments.
•Maintain a clean, orderly work area by performing or directing others to perform necessary cleaning functions.
•Perform duties of absent workers to maintain work schedule.

•Assisting in maintaining department compliance with policies, procedures, and standards, this includes training of team personnel for correct interpretation and implementation
•Ensuring team members are properly trained for assigned duties, including program cross training and completion of on the job training
•Working closely with supervisors and engineering to develop efficient techniques to maximize throughput
•Acting in place of supervisor when needed but does not issue discipline
•Monitoring team members and provides feedback to supervisor relating to job performance
•Actively participating in program meetings and serve as a resource in the resolution of problems and issues related to production
•Supporting and promoting Lean Manufacturing efforts including 5S and explanation of the cell communication board metrics to anyone who inquires
•Additional items as assigned by manager

This position interacts with other trades in and outside their area including CNC Machinists and Operators, Production and Quality Control, Operation and Project Managers, and Engineering.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
•High School Diploma/ GED
•Considerable knowledge of the job, complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of CNC machining and their practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered
•Limited supervision, no instruction needed on routine work and only general instruction given on new lines of work or special assignments
EQUIPMENT USED
This position will be using cnc machines, a personal computer, copier, and all tools necessary to do their specific job.
WORKING AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
This position will be in a manufacturing environment, and occasionally using a Computer. 50% of their work day will be direct labor.
