Responsible for delivering accurate and timely assay results using various analytical procedures for site wide incoming materials, in-process materials, and finished products. This role involves conducting and overseeing chemical tests, materials analysis, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Accountable for promoting and maintaining safety and good housekeeping in the laboratory and providing guidance for Chemical Technicians.
- Perform chemical analyses on a variety of sample types using methods like spectroscopy and wet chemistry techniques.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, and other specialized mining-related equipment.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure consistent and accurate results.
- Assist in the development and improvement of laboratory and operations procedures and protocols.
- Participate in QA/QC activities for sample preparation, method development, and instrumental analysis.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records of test results, ensuring data integrity and compliance with industry and analytical standards.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory environment, following proper storage and disposal procedures for chemicals and materials.
- Research ways to improve and keep current with industry standards.
- Provide analytical support to all departments of the operation.
- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
- Maintain required training in safety and health awareness including MSHA requirements.
- Provide analytical support to all departments of the operation.
- Assist in reviewing and updating analytical and safety procedures.
- Assist in training new laboratory personnel on standard operating procedures.
- Monitor and maintain lab supply inventory

- Strong interpersonal skills in consensus building.
- Knowledge of laboratory best practices, including sample preparation and instrument calibration.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or other specialized software used in lab environments.
- Strong analytical abilities with the capability to accurately interpret and report complex data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and present findings.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in other departments.
- Ability to maintain organized records, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Must be willing to work flexible schedules, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to manage time effectively, set priorities, and manage multiple tasks.
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or equivalent scientific degree.
- Experience with wet chemistry, spectroscopy and other analytical techniques used in mining laboratories.
- Three years of related work experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
- Familiarity with QA/QC principles and method development.
- Basic knowledge of statistical methods used in data analysis.
- English language fluency.
- At least CEFR B2 - Upper Intermediate: Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
