The Senior Electronics Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of control systems within the facility. This role serves as the technical expert for automation and controls, ensuring equipment reliability, production efficiency, and compliance with safety standards. The Lead Controls Technician also provides leadership, training, and support to the controls team while collaborating with engineering, quality, and operations.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, with emergency on-call coverage required for unplanned equipment failures. This position will also require working varying levels of overtime and varying levels of weekend work to support various plant projects and equipment startups.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology, Industrial Automation, or relevant work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or electrical maintenance.
- Proficiency with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) and HMI development.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, motor controls, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.).
- Experience with VFDs, robotics, SCADA, and industrial safety systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols, servo/drive systems, and control system integration.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, and other applicable electrical and safety standards.
- Experience with predictive maintenance technologies (thermal imaging, vibration analysis, data logging, etc.).
- Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts such as IIoT, smart sensors, and data-driven maintenance.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate cross-functional initiatives.
- Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for tracking and documentation. Specifically, FMX.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coaching skills with the ability to mentor junior technicians.
- Demonstrated ability to drive root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
This position includes but is not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:
- Lead daily activities of the controls/electrical team, ensuring tasks are assigned, completed, and documented effectively.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, instrumentation, and other automation equipment.
- Develop, modify, and maintain PLC logic, HMI screens, and control programs to support production needs.
- Coordinate with engineering and project teams on control system upgrades, new equipment integration, and capital projects.
- Implement and uphold preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for control systems.
- Train and mentor technicians and maintenance staff on controls troubleshooting, safe work practices, and best methods.
- Maintain accurate documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and program backups.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Provide root cause analysis and corrective action for recurring automation issues.
- Serve as the main point of contact for escalated control system issues.
