Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.We’re looking for a Safety Advisor to join a dynamic Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team supporting Aluminium Smelter operations in Kitimat, BC.

Reporting to the Safety Team Lead and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be
- Supporting the implementation of risk reduction initiatives across site operations, coaching frontline leaders on the use of safety tools such as risk assessments, change management, and safety interactions.
- Reviewing safety risks associated with changes in equipment, processes, or practices, and recommending improvements based on industry best practices and regulatory guidance.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations, policies, and standards.
- Monitoring incident trends and facilitating investigations for high-potential events using root cause analysis to drive sustainable corrective actions.
- Providing technical support for internal and external safety audits and helping maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Coaching operational leaders on the implementation of corporate safety programs and ensuring key learnings are effectively shared across teams.
- Contributing to building a strong safety culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Qualification in health, safety, or related field, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety position within an industrial setting
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and site standards
- A team-player who can also work independently
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities
- Data analysis skills
- Experience supporting and conducting internal audits, policy review, and roll-out of HSE initiatives
- Experience supporting incident investigations using a root cause analysis methodology (such as Essential Factor and/or Tap Root) are an asset
- Knowledge of Rio Tinto safety standards are an asset

The base salary range for this role is $94,800 - $142,200 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
