Position Overview
The Safety Specialist is responsible for achieving optimum health and safety compliance and performance at both our Neenah and Oshkosh facilities. The Safety Specialist is the key agent in evaluating and developing safety, health, and industrial hygiene programs, along with developing and conducting necessary training, managing required compliance reporting, and overseeing the facilities Emergency Response Program. The Safety Specialist is also responsible for providing support to our operations leaders and must set the tone for safety accountability.
- Walk the manufacturing floor regularly to establish a Health and Safety presence and provide support.
- Conduct toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings.
- Provide support in the Workers' Compensation program with an emphasis on process improvement and cost reduction.
- Evaluate, develop, deploy, and monitor safety and health programs, procedures, policies, and standards to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, customer, and Company safety and health standards and requirements.
- Maintain all OSHA-required records, including logs, SDS, PPE assessments, and training records.
- Ensure all operators (welders, forklift drivers, brake press users) are properly trained and certified.
- Ensure a specialized safety program and all safety requirements related to laser welding are adhered to.
- Responsible for annual hearing tests.
- Provide support to the manufacturing leadership team in safety compliance, employee ownership, and safety accountability.
- Transform the culture of safety leadership and responsibility from functional leadership to manufacturing ownership and personal accountability.
- Identify, implement, and solidify the best-known preventive/compliance safety and health standards and practices into all operations.
- Develop, implement, and administer an internal safety and health hazard/risk assessment and standards compliance auditing process designed to validate adherence to best-known standards and practices.
- Lead root-cause analysis investigations procedure/process designed to reveal and capture intellectual wisdom from all near-miss and/or failure occurrences. Communicate post-incident and near-miss findings through written and verbal communications and detailed incident investigations.
- Lead continuous improvement processes to identify and eliminate high-risk tasks through review of historical incident data; leading/warning indicators, plant, process, and equipment audits; job and activity observations; and other related methods.
- Provide applicable management/agency notification, oversight, interface, and coaching, and serve as the point of contact for all inquiries, communication, and interface with Federal, State, and Local agencies/authorities.
- Ensure safety and health is considered in all appropriate business activities and that safety pre-checks are completed before all facility, equipment, process, technology, and/or raw material modifications/changes.
- Ensure adequate safety and health controls are properly designed, installed, trained, and operating on all equipment.
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Occupational Health (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards related to workplace safety.
- Familiarity with workers' compensation laws and procedures.
- 2-5 years experience in manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Proficient in first aid, CPR, and emergency response protocols.
- Ability to conduct training sessions effectively for diverse groups of employees.
- Excellent report writing skills for documenting incidents, audits, and compliance activities.
- Strong analytical skills for conducting root cause analysis of incidents.
- Understanding of environmental health and safety (EHS) principles.
- Effective communication skills to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
- Bilingual preferred but not required (Spanish & English)
Expected hours: No less than 25 per week
