Kinder Morgan, one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, is seeking a dedicated EHS Specialist to join our dynamic team in the Midwest Region. In this field-focused role, you will be instrumental in ensuring operational safety, mitigating risks, and upholding regulatory compliance across our terminal operations.
- Lead Safety Initiatives: Manage and improve site safety procedures and practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, fall protection, hot work procedures, fire safety, and electrical safety.
- Drive Risk Reduction: Learn and understand the unique operational processes within the region to proactively identify and reduce risks to employees and the environment.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Complete and oversee required compliance tasks related to Corporate, Federal, State, and Local regulations, maintaining meticulous record-keeping.
- Boost Operational Efficiency: Utilize root cause analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions, driving safer and more efficient operations.
- Conduct Audits and Inspections: Regularly audit compliance with Kinder Morgan policies, federal, state, and local programs and policies, and ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Support Permitting and Compliance: Administer Kinder Morgan's compliance management program, including training teammates and providing regular reports. Drive safe work permitting processes for both contractors and internal personnel.
- Respond to Emergencies: Be ready to participate in an Incident Command Structure (ICS) during emergencies.
- Communicate Effectively: Disseminate changes to EHS procedures and policies to affected teammates, ensuring a clear understanding and adoption.
- Liaise with External Parties: Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to Terminals, including LOTO, confined space, fall protection, hot work, fire safety, and electrical safety.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, take direction, maintain attention to detail, and adhere to work rules and schedules.
- Demonstrated behavior consistent with Kinder Morgan Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously, often under short or changing deadlines, within a diverse and fast-paced environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and be capable of driving a KM vehicle.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Ability to walk up and down stairs/ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortably work on top of storage tanks, catwalks, conveyor systems, and material elevators to heights over 100 feet.
- Take after-hours phone calls as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Travel throughout the region (IL, MO, WI, MN, OH) as needed, with expected travel around 30 percent.
- BA/BS degree in a technical discipline, such as Occupational Safety, Sciences, or other related fields. Relevant occupational experience may be considered as a substitute.
- Three to five years in the EHS or Operations field, ideally with compliance responsibility for manufacturing, terminal operations, or energy-related industries.
- Knowledge and familiarity with ICS, USCG, USEPA, and state regulations, including Air, Water, and Waste programs, and/or EHS auditing background.
- Experience with database creation, administration, and working with and organizing large quantities of data to identify trends and implement effective solutions.
Compensation:
$85,100 - $119,100
Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
