High-Level Description
The Specialist I TIS OT Systems Architect position is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Architect to lead the architecture and solution design of SCADA, pipeline control and Operational Technology (OT)systems for gas utility operations.
The Systems Architect will be responsible for the end-to-end solution design, implementation strategy, cyber security elements, and providing architectural support for sustainment of OT platforms. This role will interface closely with IT Shared Services (including infrastructure, network, communications, and cybersecurity) and the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure alignment with technology standards and roadmaps.
Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain the architecture for Operational Technology (OT) systems including SCADA and Gas Control Systems, ensuring performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Lead design sessions, develop architecture blueprints and solutions design documents (SDD) for OT initiatives, including new implementations, upgrades, and lifecycle sustainment.
- Collaborate closely with IT Shared Services teams to ensure integration of OT systems with enterprise infrastructure, network, communications, and cyber standards.
- Engage with the Enterprise Architecture team to align OT systems architecture with the organization’s strategic IT and OT roadmaps.
- Support business case development for identified roadmap initiatives.
- Act as the technical authority and trusted advisor for OT systems across multiple stakeholders.
- Participate in vendor evaluation, selection, and system integration decisions to support OT system initiatives.
- Provide technical oversight and architectural governance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to OT systems performance, security, and compliance.
- Interact with field operations, engineering and automation teams to understand business and operational needs and translate them into reliable and innovative technology solutions.
- Support incident response and troubleshooting for high-impact OT system issues when architectural expertise is required.
- Interact with internal and external resources to understand technology trends and their application to the business and technology roadmap.
- Degree/diploma in Computing Science or similar Engineering fields.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience designing, architecting, and implementing IT or OT solutions
- Experience collaborating with IT teams in areas such as networking, cybersecurity, and infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of critical systems operations including system availability, real-time data processing, regulatory compliance, and safety-critical environments.
- Excellent analytical problem solving, technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations.
- Team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus.
- A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes, and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
- A broad understanding of the Enterprise applications landscape and emerging technologies to be able to effectively support joint planning activities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in energy, utilities, or oil & gas industries.
- Familiarity with standards such as NERC CIP, IEC 62443, ISA 95/99, and cybersecurity frameworks for critical infrastructure.
- Certification in architecture or relevant vendor-specific certifications
Physical Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To
Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
