The Solar Farm Technician Trainee performs preventative and corrective maintenance for all scopes of an operating power plant, including civil, mechanical, and electrical inspection and repair. The Solar Farm Technician Trainee monitors the solar power plant’s availability and ensures mechanical and electrical maintenance is being performed when necessary to maintain established safety and operating targets. Responsible for executing daily scheduling philosophy, utilizing a prioritized list of work provided by planning with a focus on maximizing generation and ensuring proactive work is prioritized and completed.


Role Responsibilities:

Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical equipment
Ensure that all assigned maintenance tasks are performed safely and by site operating procedures established for Storage PV sites
Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation that is required to conduct maintenance and repairs in a safe manner
Proactively look for improvement opportunities to job appropriate processes and procedures
Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements
Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
Perform maintenance on trackers, inverters, and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Lead
Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where appropriate
Perform current and voltage readings as necessary
Document all work and generate reports as necessary
Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
At times, may assist with BOP activities
Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
Ensure site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections are performed by site protocols
Interface with any 3rd party contractors working at our facilities
Available to respond to nontraditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues, including emergent abnormal operating conditions, execution of maintenance, tracking work orders, resolution of O&M issues
All other duties as assigned


Job Requirements and Experiences:

High School diploma or equivalent required
Associate degree in engineering or related field from an accredited US school other than correspondence or internet preferred
NABCEP Certfication or Electrical License preferred
Unrestricted driver license in good standing
Minimum 0 -1 years of work experience, already in the field of work as a trainee, maintenance electrician (commercial or industrial), is a plus
Open to be willing to learn and show responsibility for the site
Preference will be given to the candidate with some renewable energy experience, preferably solar
Job Skill and Competencies my very on roles and responsibility
Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance; substation maintenance
Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
Must be competent in electrical safety
Must be competent in understanding the NEC
Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
Ability to work within tight deadlines, and evolving schedules
Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machineries, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
Frequent oral and written communications
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
First aid/CPR/AED
OSHA Certified
Shift work
Must be trainable
Must be adaptive to new technologies and methods
Must take ownership of responsibilies and look beyond the work task, with regards to discovering new opportunities for corrective work
Must communicate verbally and orally at an extremely high level
This position is a field-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations


Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day

Pay range: The hourly base range for this position in California is $22.46 - $30.38. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
