Service Technician
to bring technical expertise and a passion for clean energy to our residential solar projects.
Position Summary
The Service Technician, reporting to the Regional Service Manager, is responsible for performing service calls, troubleshooting solar panel systems and electrical components, and providing preventive and corrective maintenance for Freedom Forever’s residential installations.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities•Maintain and repair PV inverters, string boxes, solar panels, and other components.
•Assist with solar array commissioning and system monitoring during installation.
•Ensure correct setup of PV systems.
•Perform roof repairs, re-roofs, and drywall fixes as necessary.
•Install hardware, PV modules, inverters, and monitoring equipment.
•Commission inverters and inspect solar panels.
•Handle mechanical/structural mounting of racking, modules, and electrical equipment.
•Troubleshoot and repair PV inverters, string boxes, and solar panels.
•Wire solar arrays/systems (AC/DC).
•Conduct voltage testing with appropriate PPE and procedures.
•Prepare reports to meet O&M contract deliverables.
•Perform preventive and corrective maintenance with minimal supervision.
•Attend mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols.
•Ensure compliance with quality, environmental, and safety standards.
•Maintain adherence to company policies, safety practices, and housekeeping standards.
•Identify safety risks and recommend improvements.
•Perform roof and ground mount repairs.
•Troubleshoot inverters with production loss.
•Work with various solar equipment (e.g., Enphase, Solaredge, Sunpower).
•Understand battery backup systems (Enphase, LG) and metering equipment.
•Handle electrical troubleshooting, including power outages, faults, and shorts.
•Perform travel for extended periods as required.
•Additional duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Certifications:
•High School Graduate or GED.
Experience
•Minimum of 1 year of solar experience.
•Experience with electrical and roof racking.
•Proficiency with grid-tied inverters and racking systems.
•Experience in PV component testing and electrical troubleshooting.
Skills & Abilities
•Familiar with electrical plans and field layouts.
•Able to read electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, and regulations.
•Understand NEC codes related to PV installations.
•Strong focus on safety, productivity, and attention to detail.
•Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
•Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
•Excellent communication and customer service skills.
•Ability to work well in a team environment and in various weather conditions.
•Skilled with power and hand tools.
•Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Physical Demands And Abilities
•Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects (up to 50+ pounds).
•Ability to climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
•Ability to work at heights, including rooftops and ladders.
•Ability to stay on feet for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
•Must be able to see and distinguish fine details and colors.
