Shift Supervisor, Sweeny Refinery

The Shift Supervisor, Sweeny Refinery provides shift-to-shift oversight of all activities for their business team. This individual is responsible for the people 24/7 and owns the area during their 12- hour shift, ensuring that all units are operating safely, efficiently, and within operational and environmental targets. In addition, the Shift Supervisor provides direction and coaching to the assigned shift operators to achieve the business plan and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.

Responsibilities May Include:

Ensuring P66 and contract resources safely perform assigned work within established policies and procedures

Applying lessons learned from company incidents, investigate and report incidents, lead safety discussions, and conduct routine operational and mechanical safety audits

Supervising of P66 employees including job assignments, training support, people development, and performance feedback

Ensuring adequate unit staffing, directing maintenance callouts, and administering discipline of direct reports

Planning, communicating, and executing the refinery business plan within operational and environmental targets

Driving operational excellence by supporting unit optimization, screening the priority/need of work notifications, cross-plant lineups/changes, and developing area contingency plans

Auditing field activities including permitting, LTT, Joint Job Site Visits, Safety System Bypasses, and operator rounds

Required Qualifications:

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

Must be at least 18 years of age

High school diploma or equivalent

5 or more years of experience operating a refinery process unit or equivalent

Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work a 12-hour rotating shift that includes weekends and holidays (employees generally work 48 hours one week, 36 hours the next, rotating between days and nights)

Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:

Travel up to 5% of the time

Transport articles up to 50 pounds

Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height

Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat

Work outside in harsh weather conditions

Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)

Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Upgrade supervisory experience

Proficient in SAP, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), OIS and IMPACT reporting

Console Operator experience running a process unit

Problem solving ability

The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
