Position Summary:
This position directs the activities of plant operations personnel in a 24 hour/day 7 day/week chemical manufacturing plant. Maintains production schedules and ensures safety and quality standards are met in the production of chemicals. Plans work, makes assignments and trains employees. Assists in the hiring process and administers company policies.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Ensure company safety and environmental standards are met
•Execute all planned processes, equipment, employees, safety, and housekeeping activities of the area and meet production quality and quantity standards on the shift(s)
•Maintain thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment
•Report any process and equipment problems; call Maintenance on evenings and weekends for assistance with problems
•Verify that discharges from the plant are within limits
•Utilize fully integrated IT business system (SAP) in all processes
•Train, upgrade, evaluate, and review chemical operators
•Assist with planning, scheduling, and directing production work for efficient operations
•Assist with ensuring company safety and environmental standards are met
•Assist with ensuring company quality standards in production are met
•Assist with ensuring all established policies, rules and regulations, and procedures are followed
•Distribute plant status reports to the Production Manager and/or Operations Leader
•Troubleshoot problems and revise production schedule to optimize production and minimize customer and quality impact.
•Work to reduce costs through improving product quality and lower operating and supply costs
•Other duties as assigned
Working Experience and Education:
•Associates or bachelor’s degree in a related field with minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing operation with a working knowledge of plant process flows and operations
•OR a minimum of 8 years’ experience in one or more plant functions: production, materials management, technical, engineering or maintenance
•AND the capability and desire to undertake continued education courses in a related field.
•AND at least 2 years in a leadership and supervisory position in a manufacturing operation
Competencies and Skills Required:
•Strong knowledge of basic chemical reactions utilized in the manufacturing process
•Ability to plan and execute in a production environment
•High degree of attention to safety and accident prevention
•Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
•Ability to lead others in a fast-paced, high stress environment
•Must be able to respond appropriately and immediately to disaster/emergency situations
•Requires overall knowledge of chemical processing equipment, plant processes, environmental guidelines, and state, federal and local employment law
•Intermediate level computer skills- MS Word, Excel, and Internet
•Experience utilizing fully integrated business system, such as SAP or similar business system
