We are actively seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to join our Operations team within our Lloydminster Thermal division at our brand-new Meota Central facility. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to play a key role from the ground up – supporting the project through construction, commissioning, and start-up phases. In this role, you will also help recruit and build your own team, who will report directly to you, while playing a central part in establishing a strong safety-focused culture from day one. As a Shift Engineer, you will lead your team in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant by optimizing production and maintaining all processes within specifications. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing your team members. The ideal candidate brings comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures, plant equipment and plant operations, along with a proactive approach to continuous improvement - enhancing workflows without compromising safety or quality.
The Successful Candidate Will:
•Ensure compliance with, and commitment to, Strathcona’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and regulatory policies, and practices.
•Focus on safety, environment and health of employees while maximizing plant efficiency
•Ensure effective communication with the Operations team members as well as Maintenance, Production and Facility Engineering, HSER and supervisory staff.
•Direct maintenance and ensure that the work is completed as per Strathcona’s procedures and work standards.
•Monitor, troubleshoot and control plant conditions and maintain proper documentation including safe work permits, FLHA’s & required safety inspections.
•Provide coaching and training for the operations team and other employees.
•Provide responsible and effective leadership during emergency situations or maintenance situations.
•Willing to train/work in all operating positions in the plant.
•Assist and lead Emergency Response Plan (ERP) drills.
•Sets an excellent example in work habits and team skills, while maintaining and promoting a professional and positive attitude.
•Responsible for troubleshooting and addressing any emergency/upset situations impacting the facility.
•Ensure Logbooks are being maintained and are legible, informative, and time stamped.
•Provide creative solutions and effective problem solving of issues that arise within the plant environment, i.e., troubleshooting, flagging deficiencies and recommending changes to current practices.
•Review, revise and write Operations Procedures.
•Report deficiencies, initiate MOCs and enter work-orders.
•Establish and maintain respectful and supportive working relationships with team members and with colleagues in other teams.
•Continue to learn new tasks, interpersonal skills and openly accept/give constructive feedback.
•Enter Hazard id/incident reports and ensure their teams HSE participation targets are met.
•Demonstrate proficiency in all competencies as per Operator Progression Matrix.
•Support management decisions with honest and open communication with all employees.
Qualifications Include:
•Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively develop and manage a team.
•Excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
•Minimum 8 years SAGD operating experience with in-depth knowledge of steam generation, water treatment, oil treating, de-oiling, and well operations.
•2nd Class TSASK Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.
•Familiarity with DeltaV DCS systems considered an asset.
•An understanding of Once Thru Steam Generators, Water Treatment processes SAGD Wells, Natural Gas Compressors and Utilities Systems (glycol heaters and air compressors)
•Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
•Ability to interpret facility drawings (i.e. P&ID’s, Line Lists, and Shutdown Keys).
Work Environment:
•12-hour shift schedule on a 7-dayson/ 7-days-off rotation, alternating between day and night shifts. This includes coverage on weekends, holidays, and as needed to support plant operations.
