Job Description
U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Bessemer, AL. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing engineering projects, specifications, plans, and designs for additions, modifications, and improvements to manufacturing equipment and plant facilities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities•Research new projects, develop systems and processes that reduce costs, enhance employee safety, improve product quality, and increase operating efficiencies and equipment reliability. Executes and manages these projects from design conception to installation, commissioning, and optimization.
•Finding solutions to mechanical engineering problems and provides engineering calculations to support design solutions.
•Develop detailed budgets, scopes of work, drawings, and schedules for capital projects as well as emergency repairs.
•Management of multiple capital projects on various sites.
•Coordinate with plant personnel, vendors, and third-party contractors to ensure projects are safely completed on schedule and as required.
•Produce detailed updates on project progression, milestones, and critical paths.
•Locate and analyze historical drawings and specifications for the maintenance and improvement of existing equipment.
•Ensure proper procedures and documentation for on-site work including Contractor line up, Confined space, Hot work, LOTO, and Safety Behavor Audits.
Skills & Other Requirements
•Five years of broad-based engineering experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment is desired, preferably with a steel or foundry company.
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering required with Mechanical Engineering preferred.
•Registered Professional Engineer status preferred.
•Knowledge of foundry equipment and procedures, OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, and service resources to the foundry industry.
•Ability to think logically, strong decision-making skills.
•Computer literate, able to effectively utilize CAD and project management software.
•Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to present technical data.
•This position requires working in both an office and foundry environment and will require domestic or international travel.
