Position Summary: The Service Technician 3 is a senior-level field and shop-based technician responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on frac equipment including pumps, blenders, hydration units, data vans, and other hydraulic/mechanical systems. This role provides technical support and leadership to junior technicians and ensures equipment is operating at peak performance in accordance with OEM specifications and customer requirements.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
•Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical frac equipment.
•Conduct equipment overhauls and major component replacements both in-shop and in-field.
•Mentor and train lower-level technicians (Technician 1 and 2), promoting skill development and safety.
•Read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and work orders to determine work procedures.
•Perform detailed inspections and functional tests on frac equipment before and after repairs.
•Document service and repair activities accurately in the company’s service management system.
•Communicate technical issues and solutions with engineering, quality assurance, and customers.
•Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment at customer sites.
•Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and support continuous improvement initiatives.
•Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; adhere to company safety and environmental policies.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED required; technical degree or certifications (diesel, hydraulics, or electrical systems) preferred.
•Minimum 5 years of experience in servicing frac or oilfield equipment.
•Expert-level knowledge of frac pumps, blenders, hydration units, and control systems.
•Proficiency in hydraulic and electrical system troubleshooting and repair.
•Ability to use diagnostic tools, hand tools, torque tools, and heavy-duty service equipment.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to travel to customer locations and work extended hours as needed, including weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions:
•Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
•The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
•Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
•Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
•Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
•React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
•Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
•Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
•Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
•Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
