Position Summary: The Service Technician II is responsible for performing intermediate-level maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on hydraulic fracturing (frac) equipment, including pumps, blenders, hydration units, and other related machinery. This role supports both in-shop and field operations and plays a critical role in ensuring equipment integrity, minimizing downtime, and delivering excellent customer service.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
•Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on frac equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems).
•Conduct diagnostic tests and troubleshooting procedures to determine the root cause of equipment malfunctions.
•Repair and replace components, including pumps, valves, engines, transmissions, fluid ends, and control systems.
•Assist in commissioning new or refurbished frac equipment at customer or company locations.
•Interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics and technical manuals.
•Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and equipment documentation.
•Ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
•Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and customers regarding service timelines and technical findings.
•Mentor and train entry-level technicians as needed.
•Travel to customer locations for on-site service support (typically regional travel, may include overnight stays).
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
•High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology or industrial maintenance preferred.
•3+ years of experience servicing frac or oilfield equipment (pumps, blenders, etc.).
•Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic software, and testing equipment.
•Solid understanding of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and industrial control systems.
•Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and repair manuals.
•Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
•Effective communication and customer service abilities.
•Able to work independently and as part of a team in field or shop settings.
•Basic computer literacy for completing service logs and work orders.
Working Conditions:
•Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
•The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
•Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
•Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
•Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
•React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
•Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
•Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
•Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
•Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
