Position Summary Description
Ensure compliance with various governmental tax laws and regulations and minimize the tax liability. Ensure that management is informed of the tax consequences of proposed transactions or activities.
Essential Functions
•Prepares detailed 10 and 20-year forecasts/projections of tax liabilities and loss carryforwards for income, property, sales/use, or other taxes, including analyses for financial reporting, corporate modeling, and financing transactions, as needed.
•Provides input, analyses, calculations, etc. on tax-related aspects of forecasts/projections created by other Sections or Departments.
•Performs research on specific tax issues, for example, those related to Cooperative status, patronage, member or nonmember income, financing arrangements and leases, other complex transactions and agreements, etc. Also on the effects of potential changes in federal, state or local tax legislation, regulations or rulings; advises of alternatives and recommends optimum strategies.
•Maintains broad, relevant knowledge on tax issues or developments currently or potentially affecting the Cooperative. Recommends optimum strategies, as appropriate.
•Develops and ensures implementation of detailed records and systems required for the research, documentation, preparation, filing, and payment and archiving of all tax returns and taxes.
•Develops, implements and maintains, comprehensive tax record keeping systems to ensure proper tax treatment for all transactions and assets, including treatment of leased and owned property.
•Determines information required to prepare, support and file tax returns and other tax-related documents and disclosures.
•Maintains or gives direction to others in maintaining required records.
•Prepares or reviews all federal, state, and local tax, information or benefit plan returns required to be filed with taxing authorities, ensures timely filing of all returns and payment of all taxes. Ensures compliance with all tax laws and regulations. Gives direction with respect to state and local taxes and payroll taxes.
•Responsible for all aspects of federal, state and local income/franchise tax reporting, payment, mitigation, etc., research on specific issues and provide recommendations.
•Liaison with external tax consultancies as primary point of contact for audit review, tax research, annual contract review, and other tax-related items as applicable.
•With respect to state and local taxes: prepares complex analyses and schedules for property tax returns and works closely with Tax Accountant(s) in filing required returns, obtaining or providing resale certificates, contacting taxing authorities and vendors, and coordinating audits for state and local taxes, especially for non-Florida jurisdictions.
•Performs any essential, time-sensitive tasks or duties normally performed by Tax Accountant(s) in the absence of such personnel.
•Reviews all work performed by Tax Accountant(s). Provides assistance or direction in accomplishing tasks or obtaining needed information from other Sections or Departments, contractors/vendors, consultants, etc.
•Ensures that tax data, codes, functions and reports are accurate and operating for the optimum tax positions and are kept up to date with tax laws and system modifications/upgrades from software vendors.
•Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
•NERC Compliance: Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole’s Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in “audit-ready”. You should also be familiar with Seminole’s Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole’s compliance program and the context of your duties and responsibilities attendant to your designation in the SOM.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Tax, or equivalent, is required. Five (5) or more years’ experience specializing in the area of corporate tax compliance and research. Public accounting experience not required; however, excellent work paper techniques and familiarity with financial accounting principles and reporting required. Experience with taxation of cooperative organizations preferred. Desirables: CPA certification and/or Master’s Degree, working knowledge of computerized accounting, budgeting, inventory, projects and especially fixed asset systems, experience with tax provisions in contracts and additional specialized training in taxation principles and compliance.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
Working Conditions
Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment.
