About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Tax Specialist to join our team. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with Canadian tax regulations and managing various tax-related processes for HDI and its affiliated companies. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating complex tax challenges in a dynamic environment, contributing to our reputation for technical excellence and reliability.
Responsibilities
•Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and tax agencies regarding Canadian tax compliance.
•Prepare Canadian corporate tax returns and related working paper files.
•Oversee other Canadian compliance requirements (T4, T4A, T5, etc.).
•Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions for Hunter Dickinson affiliated companies.
•Assist the risk and compliance team with documenting and testing tax internal controls.
•Conduct special taxation projects, some requiring in-house tax research.
•Liaise with finance/accounting and/or management regarding tax queries.
Qualifications
•Proven experience in Canadian tax compliance, including corporate tax returns and statutory remittances (T4, T4A, T5).
•Strong understanding of Canadian tax legislation and regulations.
•Ability to manage relationships with external tax advisors and government agencies.
•Experience with tax provisions and internal controls.
•Proficiency with relevant tax software and Microsoft Office.
•Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities.

Potential Full-Time Opportunity
For candidates with appropriate experience, there is potential to expand this role to full-time with additional responsibilities. This expansion would involve taking on payroll responsibilities, which include:
•Processing semi-monthly payroll cycles for both salaried and day rate/flexible employees.
•Calculating and reconciling government deductions and remittances including WCB, EHT, and other statutory requirements.
•Ensuring compliance with British Columbia (and when required other provincial) payroll regulations.
•Serving as the main point of contact for employee payroll inquiries.
•Reconciling payroll accounts and resolving discrepancies promptly.
•Preparing/submitting statutory remittances and reports, maintaining CRA online accounts.
•Supporting year-end processes including T4 preparation.
•Handling cross-border payroll responsibilities when required.
•Collaborating with HR on special projects and process improvements related to payroll.
