The Senior Strategy & Economic Policy Specialist plays a critical role in shaping BC Hydro’s long-term strategic direction.
This position supports the development of corporate strategy through rigorous economic and financial analysis, scenario
planning, and industry benchmarking. The role requires a strong analytical mindset, the ability to synthesize complex
information into actionable insights, and exceptional communication skills to convey strategic recommendations to senior
leadership. Success in this role depends on collaboration across diverse business groups, curiosity about emerging trends,
a bias for action and a commitment to innovation.
The successful candidate:
- Applies strategic frameworks and scenario planning techniques to evaluate future opportunities, risks, and emerging
- Maintains a current understanding of energy industry innovations, market dynamics, and utility strategies across North
- Monitors and analyzes provincial, federal, and global energy policy developments to assess implications for BC Hydro’s
- Conducts and supports economic, commercial, and financial analysis to evaluate investment opportunities, business
cases, and long-term planning scenarios that guide corporate priorities.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of BC Hydro’s corporate strategy that supports the organization’s
mandate and priorities, ensuring alignment with long-term planning objectives.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with subject matter experts, peers, and senior leaders across BC Hydro to
- Collaborates cross-functionally with teams such as Load Forecasting, Energy Planning, Business Development,
Communications, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs to ensure alignment and integration of strategic initiatives.
- Prepares clear, compelling presentations, strategic narratives, and briefing materials for executive and Board audiences to
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Public Policy, or a related field. A master's degree would be an
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in corporate strategy, consulting, financial analysis, or a related discipline-
- Strong economic benefit analysis, financial modeling and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into
- Familiarity with the energy utility industry, including regulatory and policy environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing executive-level presentations and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions and build strong relationships to advance strategic
- A bias towards action and demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- A mindset of innovation and continuous improvement, with a willingness to explore and adopt emerging tools and
technologies to enhance strategic analysis and accelerate workflows.
