ABOUT THE JOB: The Lewis Tree Safety and Human Performance Team fosters a culture that promotes learning, innovation, and prioritizing safety work based on serious injury potential risks. We recognize that compliance with regulators and company rules is critical, but simply following the rules will not keep people safe. We partner with universities and other world-class experts in Safety Science, Resilience Engineering, Cognitive Systems Engineering, and Human Factors to learn from our own experience and the experiences of others to better engineer safety and human performance practices and tools for overall improvement.



RESPONSIBILITIES:


Innovating to create safety.

- Bring line clearance expert knowledge and experience to innovate new ways of working and thinking about work to customize HuP concepts, tools, and practices.

- Adapt HuP tools to workers, field test, and incorporate feedback from workers, ensuring that what the safety team produces is effective in the field.

- Explore, vet, test, and roll-out PPE and gear improvements.

- Engage with workers, safety team, and operations leaders to uncover gaps between how work is being done and the procedures / policies to understand challenges, surface good practices, and resolve worker double-binds, then, partnering with workers, figure out what is needed to do work safely (processes, tools).

- Update models of risk and identify human performance / human factors related opportunities

- Create safety and human performance related training (ex. aerial rescue, electrical safety) to comply with OSHA, ANSI, DOT and tree industry regulations and standards, to advance human performance knowledge and application.

- Develop methods to monitor compliance then support organization in closing gaps.

- Produce innovative learning mechanisms that connect with front line workers (e.g., scenario-based, storytelling, podcasts, videos, etc.)

- Write safety and human performance related communications (Tailgates, Hot Sheets)

- Conduct incident interviews while applying New View Safety and Human Performance concepts

- Learn, teach, translate, and coach executives, leaders, crews, and peers on understanding and applying safety and human performance theories, tools, and practices.

- Actively bring New View Safety, Safety II, Resilience Engineering, “Safety Differently” point of view into conversations, designs, and decisions.

- Coordinate and lead projects and Learning Teams to advance Lewis Tree and line clearance industry safety.

- Lead conversations with customers to share how Lewis is implementing new view safety.

- Understand and implement strategy based in current safety science (Safety II, Resilience Engineering, “Safety Differently,” “New View”).

- Network with thought leaders redefining safety (Safety II, Resilience Engineering, “Safety Differently”, “New View”).

- Work with various departments and vendor to manage safety information transfer for customer databases (ISNetworld, Avetta, etc.)

- Research, revise, develop, and deliver safety related policies, processes, and technical procedures (e.g., wildfire prevention).

- Advance Lewis Tree and line clearance industry safety through representing LTS in industry groups, helping shape industry policies and standards.


QUALIFICATIONS:

- Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience

- Line clearance, residential tree work, or related field experience

- Experience in a safety leadership role a plus

- Maintain or obtain Certified Tree Care Safety Professional credential

- Maintain or obtain Certified Utility Safety Professional credential

- ISA Certified Arborist credential a plus

- Valid driver’s license

The position requires travel up to 50% including overnights by ground, rail, or air transportation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


COMPENSATION: $72,000 - $92,000

Lewis Services regularly evaluates our compensation and benefit packages to ensure we remain competitive. Starting pay will be based on a candidate’s experience, skills and education.
