We are seeking a senior planning engineer to join our Integrated Resource Planning Division. You will be responsible for identifying
and initiating planning studies necessary to ensure reliable and economic expansion of the Manitoba Hydro's major electrical
transmission network.
- Direct engineering support staff in the performance of technical studies and provide technical expertise to others.
- Perform load interconnection evaluation/load interconnection facility studies including the addition and expansion of major
industrial customers and provide advice on complex issues to the customers.
- Perform complex transmission network planning studies and prepare technical reports that direct the development of the
Manitoba Hydro's major electrical transmission network involving 115 kV, 138 kV, 230 kV and 500 kV AC facilities.
- Develop plans, works scope, study models and conduct technical studies to support Manitoba Hydro's compliance to
- Participate in developing capital budget documentation, including the preparation of Capital Investment Concepts and Capital
Investment Justifications and obtain approval of the Single Line Diagrams for capital expenditures.
- Prepare and make presentations in defense of reports and recommendations to interested parties.
- Represent the Grid Infrastructure Planning Department and Manitoba Hydro externally by participating on appropriate industry
- Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing with a minimum of seven years related
experience, of which a minimum of three years' experience is with transmission system planning and analysis.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a
- In depth understanding of the large, interconnected power systems and in the application of industry planning standards such
as NERC/MRO requirements/standards, power system planning study procedures/criteria and engineering economics.
- Proficient knowledge of power system planning tools for example PSS/E, PowerTech DSA Tools used for electric power
system studies such as load flow, contingency analysis, transient stability, voltage stability and fault analysis.
- Proficient knowledge in computer programming in power system simulations and fully knowledgeable in the capital budgeting
- Experience with transmission planning would be an asset.

$98,380.88-$134,784.78 Annually.
