Summary
The Senior Project Engineer, reporting to the Owner's Project Manager, will serve as the owner's front-line technical contact for the design and construction of a greenfield gold heap leach mine in Northern Nevada. The Sr. Project Engineer will support the oversight and coordination of all engineering deliverables for the South Railroad Project. Working closely with the EPCM contractor and subject matter experts, the Project Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and validating engineering outputs to ensure technical quality, compliance with project requirements, and alignment with execution strategies.
The successful candidate will be the resident Owner’s Team representative in the EPCM contractor’s offices through the design and procurement phases of the project and will then be a site-based role supporting construction during the execution phase. The role requires deep technical oversight, onsite construction monitoring, and ensuring full compliance with MSHA and Environmental regulations for all plant facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight in the EPCM offices for all areas of the project, including the ADR plant, heap pad, solution systems, carbon circuit, and ancillary facilities (maintenance shop, laboratory and administration buildings), mine development, dewatering and water treatment.
- Participate in model reviews, design reviews, and constructability reviews to ensure design readiness for execution.
- Provide technical input into procurement processes, including review of technical specifications and vendor deliverables.
- MSHA Compliance in Design: Act as the Owner’s front-line technical reviewer for MSHA compliance during the design phase. Review all design documents, equipment specifications, and project plans to ensure adherence to relevant MSHA standards and regulations, including those related to surface facilities, electrical systems, and fire protection. Coordinate design reviews and approvals with the Owner’s Operations SMEs.
- Environmental Compliance in Design: Act as the Owner’s front-line technical reviewer for environmental compliance during the design phase. Review all design documents, equipment specifications, and project plans to ensure adherence to relevant permit requirements and regulations, particularly for areas containing cyanide solutions. Coordinate design reviews and approvals with the Owner’s Operations SMEs.
- Construction Oversight and Monitoring: Act as the owner's representative on-site, vigilantly monitoring contractor activities and performance during the execution phase. Conduct regular site inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications, drawings, and schedule. Act as liaison between the Owner, EPCM and contractors for field engineering.
- Project Controls: Work with project controls to monitor schedules and costs for the entire project, including the process plant and ancillary facilities. Evaluate change order requests from the EPCM and contractors, focusing on impacts to the overall scope and budget.
- Operational Readiness: Coordinate with the mine operations team to ensure a seamless transition from construction to commissioning and operation. Verify that operator training, equipment readiness, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are in place for all facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Mining, or a related Engineering field.
- 8+ years in mining capital projects, with a strong focus on heap leach operations and the full ADR circuit.- Project experience working directly for a mine owner.
- Operational experience working directly for a mine operator highly desired.
- Demonstrated experience in a technical oversight capacity as an Owner’s representative in an engineering office.
- Expertise in the cyanide heap leach process, ADR operations, MSHA regulations, Nevada regulatory standards and industrial construction practices.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Work Schedule
The successful candidate will be expected to travel approximately 60% of the time. This role will begin working upon hire in Phoenix, Arizona, on a rotation agreed upon hire, preferably 2 weeks in office, one week remote, 40 hours per week. Upon substantial engineering completion, the role will transition to the South Railroad site near Elko, Nevada and remain based there until project completion on a 50 hour per week basis.
