In March 2022, Kinross acquired Great Bear Resources and its flagship Great Bear project (GBR), located near Red Lake, Ontario. The Great Bear property is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations. At the start of 2025, the project moved into the detailed engineering and major equipment procurement phase.
The GBR Senior Mine and Maintenance Coordinator will be responsible for leading and coordinating all items related to the mobile equipment, fleet technologies, OEM/vendor engagement, maintenance model development and helping to build the maintenance strategy for both the open pit and underground equipment fleet. The role will report to the Mine Technical Services Manager, Great Bear Project and be located in the Kinross Head Office in Toronto, with expected regular travel to site and to the mobile equipment vendors offices and dealer facilities.
- Coordinate all aspects related to the mobile equipment OEMs for the open pit and underground. Key areas include fleet purchase, dealer site maintenance and parts support strategy, maintenance cost and Total Cost of Ownership development, maintenance headcount, selection of the mining fleet and maintenance technologies, assembly and commissioning plan.
- Liaise with the Kinross Technical Services (KTS) group and Kinross Operations teams on key maintenance inputs and maintenance strategy.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager to execute all Operations Readiness duties related with mobile equipment maintenance, reliability and planning.
- Manage the TCOs for major pieces of mobile equipment, including key reliability data, to help inform selection of equipment
- Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure supply chain, warehouse and maintenance strategy are all aligned to our operational strategy
- Coordinate with the selected mobile equipment OEMs and their respective dealers as they progress their deliverables, on-site maintenance support and execution plan
- This will include any coordination during the Mobile Equipment RFPs
- Lead the implementation of any mobile maintenance technologies
- Direct the maintenance model creation for the project, including the XERAS maintenance models to feed Project economics
- Coordinate with KTS, Kinross Maintenance and other internal Subject Matter Experts Benchmark versus other Kinross sites and mining operations to include best practices
- Ensure quality standards are upheld including, theKinross Way for Maintenance plan
- Prepare business cases and reports regarding the project, and present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
- Schedule out and manage key maintenance activities to meet mining operations ramp-up
- Ensure local safety regulations and Kinross safety in design best practices are included in decision-making and fleet maintenance strategy
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent heavy industry experience
- 5-7 years of related work and industry experience, in the areas of maintenance, reliability, project management and experience with fleet selection and implementation.
- Experience with open pit and underground operations, mining technology, operating and maintenance strategy.
- Knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices, especially related to Total Cost of Ownership and maintenance planning strategy
- Highly developed verbal and written communications, as well as presentation skills
- Strong analytical and planning skills to establish and anticipate technical challenges as they arise
- Ability to manage several external consultants delivering complex operational scopes with multiple interfaces and priorities
- Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions
- Demonstrate leadership in safety and environmental management
- Dissect critical issues to define key drivers
- Ability to travel
