Tourmaline Oil Corp. is a Canadian senior crude oil and natural gas exploration and production company. We are focused on long-term growth through an active exploration, development, production and acquisition program in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
We are currently looking for a Senior Health and Safety Advisor to support our company’s field assets and operations team in Alberta and British Columbia. This position is based out of our Calgary office.
Reporting to the Director of Safety Operations the successful candidate will be responsible for or assist with the following duties but not be limited to:
- Develop, update, and manage the company’s Health and Safety management systems including but not limited to:
- Corporate guidance documents (standards, policies, codes of practice)
- Worker onboarding and training & competency
- Contractor/vendor management
- Systems auditing and reporting
- Monitor, evaluate, and adjust the company’s Health & Safety Management systems on an ongoing basis to ensure that they are right-sized and appropriate for company operations, aligned with corporate goals, and compliant with applicable provincial and federal regulations.
- Work closely with the HSE Team Lead - Field Services to implement corporate Health and Safety programs across the company’s operations.
- Monitor regulatory changes & emerging issues and advise company management as to potential impacts to operations.
- Collaborate with management to assess operational risks & develop effective health & safety mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate health & safety training for company employees & management.
- Monitor contractor performance.
- Represent company’s interests at various industry, stakeholder, & government forums.
- Travel to the field periodically to gain insight and improve corporate Health and Safety programs, ensuring effectiveness, and identifying gaps to be addressed.
- Act as a resource and subject-matter expert for corporate and field operations staff to ensure consistent understanding and application of health & safety processes.
- Prepare and communicate safety alerts, regulatory updates, and post-incident lessons learned summaries.
- Assist in recruiting and screening future HSE staff members and mentoring of younger staff.
- Support company’s HSE programs & initiatives as required & directed by the Director of Safety Operations.
- Professional designation in OHS-related discipline (CRSP, CRST, ROH, or equivalent).
- Minimum 10 years of oil & gas industry experience, with at least 10 years in an HSE role (field, corporate, or both).
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience developing and evaluating HSE management systems.
- Post-secondary education in Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering (asset).
- Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS and WorkSafeBC regulations, as well as CSA standards.
- Experience with contractor management systems (e.g., Veriforce, ISN).
- Ability to work independently and provide on-call support as required.
- Strong communication, technical writing, and public speaking skills.
- High competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
