Daanaa is a Vancouver-based fabless power electronics and semiconductor company on a mission to build a simpler, efficient future in energy generation, storage, distribution, consumption, and management, for generations ahead. The company is in the early commercialization stages of deep tech power conversion and control technologies, offering innovative solutions to OEMs in multiple industries, including solar energy, electric vehicles, and data centers.
Daanaa's value is derived from its transformative Power Transaction Unit (PTU) that consolidates power electronic functions—from bi-directional conversion and amplification to management, transfer, diagnostics, and control—onto a single, high-power-density, high-efficiency, low-profile, scalable, reliable, and safe module. At Daanaa, we are building a world of Energy Untethered

.
We are growing here at Daanaa and we’re looking to add a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our team to lead real-time control architecture and embedded firmware development for advanced power electronics systems. This role is responsible for control-loop design, hardware optimization, system bring-up, and establishing best-in-class firmware development practices.
•
Power Control Architecture:Lead the design and implementation of real-time control loops (PID, resonant control, etc.) for power converter and inverter topologies. Optimize PWM strategies and sensing filters to ensure stable operation across all load conditions.
•
System Modeling & Simulation:Utilize tools like MATLAB/Simulink or PLECS to model control algorithms before deployment. Bridge the gap between theoretical math and efficient C/Verilog implementation.
•
Mentorship & Quality Standards:Set the bar for the firmware team by establishing coding standards, conducting deep-dive code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers in debugging complex hardware-software interactions.
•
Cross-Functional Leadership:Partner with Hardware Engineers to specify ASIC/FPGA requirements and with project managers to provide accurate technical scoping and risk assessments for the product roadmap.
•
Hardware Optimization:Ensure that firmware optimizes interactions with hardware peripherals, sensors, actuators, and other external devices. Utilize electronic test equipment to perform system bring-up, debugging and performance tuning.
•
Design Methodology:Develop, implement and maintain best-in-class code development, maintenance, and deployment practices. Drive system bring-up, validation, and performance optimization, collaborating closely with hardware, ASIC, and test teams.
•
Compliance and Standards:Own the "First-Line-of-Defense" firmware. Design ultra-fast interrupt-driven protection cycles for over-voltage, over-current, and thermal runaway scenarios. Design firmware for compliance with industry standards, regulations, and certifications relevant to the specific domain and application area.
•
Real-Time Embedded Mastery: Expert-level C/C++ and assembly for real-time applications. Deep knowledge of MCU peripherals specifically for power (High Resolution PWM, ADCs and analog signal subsystems).• Power Electronics Theory:
Familiarity with converters, inverters, switching behavior, sensing, and control constraints in power systems.
•
Control Systems Knowledge:Strong understanding of control theory (PID, state-space, digital control) and its practical implementation in firmware.
•
FPGA & Hardware Acceleration:Proficient in Verilog/VHDL to offload time-critical control or protection logic to FPGAs or CPLDs.
•
Advanced Debugging:Mastery of high-power lab safety and equipment. Able to debug "noise" issues, EMI concerns, and transient response behavior using high-bandwidth isolated probes.
•
RTOS & Middleware Excellence:Expert in configuring RTOS kernels for deterministic behavior and designing lean communication stacks (CAN, Modbus, Ethernet) for industrial power systems.
•
Leading by Experience:Proven experience in design, test and verification, validation and productization of power electronics, battery management systems and microcontrollers.
•
Compliance and Safety Driven:You have practical experience designing firmware to international regulations and standards.
•
Empathic Design:You have experience making technical trade-off decisions and the ability to make the optimal decision for firmware performance abilities and communicate trade-offs to different product development teams (IE. Hardware and Product).
