National Grid is hiring a Senior Engineer (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations
To support successful and on-time delivery of substation projects including supporting the capital investment plan, distribution and transmission interconnection projects, and other emerging work or new technologies. Substation projects include equipment replacement, asset separation, rebuilds and greenfield (new) substations.
- Technical lead for greenfield and brownfield electrical substation projects supporting capital work portfolio.
- Perform preliminary and detail design & engineering for transmission and distribution class substations up to 345kV AIS and GIS substations. Develop project scope and cost estimate documentation for the detail design.
- Conduct project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Offer on-site and off-site construction support.
- Perform engineering calculations and studies as necessary to support project scope
- Perform drawing reviews.
- Perform QA/QC to ensure compliance with National Grid standards and specifications.
- Procurement of substation equipment including creating equipment specification, vendor outreach, RFP, proposal evaluation and make a recommendation, review vendor drawings, etc.
- Participate in incident analysis with identifying problems, investigation and engineering recommendations
- Support Project Manager, Procurement, Estimating and Construction, Process Improvement and other corporate initiatives.
- Manage and work with MSA consultants ensuring compliance and technical adequacy against approved standards
- A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program with an emphasis on Power Systems
- Minimum of 6 years work experience.
- FE exam preferred. PE license is a plus.
- Knowledge or awareness with project schedule and management tool such as Primavera P6, MS Project and procore.
- Knowledge of the following is desired: Substation Equipment including Transformers, Breakers, Switches, Reclosers, Metal Clad Switchgear, etc. Substation construction and maintenance techniques, Electric utility operation practices, Preliminary Analysis including AC and DC sizing, Grounding and Lightning study analysis.
- Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards and existing electrical design codes including IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70, ASTM, NESC and Building Code.
- Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of personnel. Proven interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Demonstration of effective time management and task prioritization and capability to independently projects tasks and apply technical skills with minimal oversight
- Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes.
- Proficient O365 Suites (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word, etc.).
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to physically navigate in and around an electrical substation.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
