The Senior Electrical Estimator is responsible for overseeing the estimation process for electrical projects, ensuring accurate cost assessments, competitive bids and profitable project execution. This role involves analyzing project specifications, coordinating with clients, vendors and internal teams, and leading the estimating department to develop comprehensive and precise electrical cost estimates. The Head Electrical Estimator plays a critical role in strategic planning, risk assessment and maintaining industry competitiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities Including but not limited to)
Lead the Estimating Department to deliver accurate, competitive bids for projects ($500K - $3M).
Develop bid strategies to maintain a high close rate and strong pipeline.
Refine estimates using job cost data from Superintendents and Field Supervisors.
Ensure bids meet profit targets and account for large-job complexities.
Mentor junior Estimators and maintain vendor and customer relationships for pricing.
Analyze past $500K - $ 3M job performance to enhance strategies.
Create WBS-aligned bid breakdowns with field-source cost data.
Blueprint analysis: Thoroughly reviewing electrical blueprints and project plans to understand the scope of work, including wiring layouts, power requirements and equipment specifications.
Material calculation: Determining the quantity and type of electrical materials needed for the project, such as wire, conduit, fixtures, panels and other components.
Labor estimation: Calculating the estimated labor hours required to complete the project based on crew size, complexity of work and industry standards.
Cost breakdown: Creating a detailed cost breakdown of the project, including materials, labor, overhead and potential contingencies.
Bid preparation: Preparing comprehensive bid proposals with accurate pricing, including project timelines and payment terms to submit to customers.
Site visits: Conducting site visits to assess project conditions, access points and any potential challenges that could impact the estimate.
Compliance checks Ensuring all estimates adhere to local electrical codes, safety regulations and industry standards.
Customer communication: Collaborating with customers and project managers to clarify project requirements and address any questions regarding the estimate.
Software proficiency: Utilizing estimating software to generate accurate calculations and create professional-looking bid documents.
Blueprint reading: Ability to accurately interpret and read electrical blueprints and schematics.
Math skills: Strong mathematical skills to calculate quantities, labor hours and project costs.
Estimating experience: Prior experience in electrical estimating within the construction industry.
Communication skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with customers, Project Managers and General Contractors
Attention to detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure precise estimates
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Blue Beam and Adobe Acrobat
Proficiency with the National Electrical Code and local codes
Minimum of ten years of related experience including supervisory or lead experience and considerable experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Technical knowledge: Deep understanding of electrical systems, wiring methods and electrical codes
Expert knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools of the trade
Expert knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work
Ability to read the National Electrical Code for electrical installations
Skill in the use and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment of the trade
