The Role

Reporting to the Manager EH&S Field Support, the Senior Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Advisor Projects provides health and safety support to Gibson Energy Construction Management Teams at their designated location. The EH&S Advisor Projects provides technical and functional EH&S expertise, acts as champion for the implementation of Health and Safety processes in Gibson Energy projects and travels to Gibson Energy assets for project related work. Success in this role requires the ability to influence and lead others through a firm understanding of health and safety fundamentals within the context of a brown and greenfield construction project.

What You Will Do

- Provides leadership, direction and expertise toward the implementation and verification of Health and Safety programs.

- Acts as coach/mentor/resource for EH&S matters related to construction and project engineering.

- Monitors safe work practices and behaviors of employees and contractors.

- Actively supports construction and project management while on site for the life of the project

- Monitors field staff to ensure they are current with all assigned training requirements.

- Conducts and provides guidance related to inspections and site assessments including the contracting firms in projects.

- Responds to incidents when required.

- Facilitates incident investigations to identify true root causation and aligned measurable actions.

- Ensures that EH&S systems, processes, programs, tools and controls are applied consistently throughout the life of a projects.

- Makes recommendations for improvements to procedures and practices in consultation with construction project leadership.

- Conducts, participates and assesses tail gate meetings field level audits as required.

- Actively engages with Gibson Energy operations to limit challenges identified by SIMOPS (Simultaneous Operations) or active construction within an operating environment (brownfield)

- May perform other duties as assigned, on a schedule warranted by the project assignment.

What You'll Bring to the Role

- Completion of High School (or equivalent) is required.

- Professional Trade experience preferred.

- Minimum of 10 years of related field operations and/or EHS experience.

- Experience working in a health and safety environment in an energy, utility, and/or construction sectors.

- Professional accreditations (CSP, CRSP, NCSO, CHSC, etc.) preferred.

- Valid Class 5 Drivers licence.

- Exhibits a passion for safety excellence.

- Demonstrates strong technical skills regarding field operations, construction, projects, and engineering.

- Proven self-motivated, team player with a positive attitude.

- Strong ability to coordinate workload to achieve the most effective use of time.

- Demonstrates strong ability to build relationships with internal and external clients.

- Ability to function in high energy environment with reliability and flexibility.

- Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office Suite, and various other software packages.

- Demonstrates strong analytical skills with a sound understanding of root cause analysis.

Working Conditions

- Majority of the work may be performed at Gibson Energy construction and operating locations including but not limited to Hardisty, AB, Edmonton, AB and Moose Jaw, SK.

- Position may be located at one of the Gibson assets (home location) with extensive travel to other sites while projects are being supported, and as business needs arise.

- More than 75% travel from home base is expected

- Hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 8 hours/day/40 hours/week.

- While supporting projects in the field, hours of work will change to reflect the associated project schedule. IE – 10 on, 4 off, 11 hrs per day, or as per project requirement

- This is a salaried position and exempt from overtime unless required to work a project schedule:

- Overtime worked during projects will be banked and may be used as time off based on business needs in compliance with employment standards
