“Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.” The base for position may be located at any Duke Energy facilities in the Western Carolinas area.

This position provides comprehensive support for environmental and select health and safety responsibilities within various linear and distributed business units across the Carolinas West region as part of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) organization. Supported areas include Hydro, Solar, Power Grid Operations (PGO), Piedmont Natural Gas (NGBU), and Project Management & Construction (PMC) projects.

The role involves handling basic to moderately complex technical tasks in a wide range of environmental disciplines, ensuring compliance both with company EHS standards and with federal, state, and local regulations. You will independently identify and develop solutions using sound technical judgment.

Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental programs, systems, and procedures. The position also provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice, generates both required regulatory and internal environmental reports, and remains up-to-date with government requirements—consulting internal environmental subject matter experts as needed.

The role covers essential activities to ensure adherence to environmental laws, regulations, and corporate standards. Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental programs, systems, and procedures. You’ll coordinate responses to environmental incidents—such as spills or releases—and handle notifications to regulatory agencies including agency inspections.

- Additional duties include providing regulatory interpretation and technical guidance, conducting field observations to confirm compliance with company procedures, and offering coaching when necessary. You will participate in EHS compliance and management system audits and collaborate with subject matter experts and internal clients to ensure thorough implementation of EHS programs and policies.

- The position involves monitoring to prevent EHS incidents and hazards, as well as investigating any incidents, accidents, injuries, or complaints. You’ll also manage administrative tasks such as budgeting, special projects, employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
