Primary Purpose
Identify audit objectives, plan environment, health, and safety (EHS) scopes, data analytics, and conduct all phases of audit processes, as assigned. Provide high quality value-added audits and consulting services for all Sempra Energy regulated and non-regulated businesses.
Duties and Responsibilities
Audit Planning
•Plans audit objectives, scopes for EHS projects, and data analytics, as directed by Manager, Project Manager, and Principal Auditor.
•Conducts audits with a focus on operations and practices to ensure compliance with policies, plans, procedures, laws and regulations, the safeguarding of assets, the economical and efficient use of resources, the reliability and integrity of operations, and the health and safety of personnel.
•Collaborate with audit team and business partners to discover data driven insights/patterns that address business problems.
Audit Execution and Reporting
•Documents audit fieldwork results and ensures documented results, findings, and recommendations are
clearly supported.
•Assesses risks and recommends changes to improve operations or strengthen business controls and negotiates solutions or corrective actions.
•Works with data to identify business risks and help the team create visualizations that tell the business story and bring data insights to life.
•Prepares draft Audit Reports and communicates audit results to management. May take the lead on small to medium size audit projects.
•Works toward attaining the department's annual performance goals, which includes completing a specified number of company audits in a timely basis and within the budget hours.
•Represents the department as a business partner that adds value and is willing to assist with all Sempra activities. Sets a tone to encourage company management to call upon Audit Services for assistance. Partners on integrated audits with the finance and operations, and IT teams.
•Collaborates with team members to provide project progress and updates.
•Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Education
•Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience is required.
•Advanced degree in relevant field is preferred.
Experience
•5+ years of related experience in internal audits, data analytics, health and safety, and environmental is required.
•2+ years of experience in business, utilizing data analytics tools such as PowerBI, Alteryx, SQL, Python, R, Tableau or ACL is preferred.
•Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
•We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
Skills and Abilities
•Ability to travel approximately 10-25% locally in San Diego and Los Angeles counties, nationally and internationally is required.
•Bilingual in English and Spanish is desirable is preferred.
•Capable of solving business problems by utilizing data to 1) Ask insightful process questions 2) Identify potential bad outcomes 3) Test if a bad outcome(s) has occurred or has a high probability of occurring 4) Recommend how to prevent bad outcomes is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
•Professional audit certification (e.g., Health and Safety, Environmental, Certified Internal Auditor) is preferred.
